9 ARAB-BRED HORSE WINS 300-MILE RACE Rustem Bey, an Arab standard bred, ridden by Captain W. R. Allen, finished first at Washington, I. C, Friday evening in the 300-mile army endurance race, which started from Camp Alfred Vail, New Jersery, Monday, October 10. The others that finished of the field of seventeen which made the start were Cragmorc, a thoroughbred and standard horse; Crabbit, Castor, Vagrant and Pathfinder. The race was held in connection with the armys program of determining the type of horse best adapted for cavalry uses. Veterinarians who accompanied the horses on the test declared that all those which finished came out of the race in splendid condition. Most of those which fell out, they added, had tendon trouble.
