ROCKMINISTER DISAPPOINTS Favorite at a Short Price, but Beaten by Lord Allen. - i Garner Rides Blue Deep and Tan Son to Victory by Capital Horsemanship. r c i LEXINGTON, Ky., October 25. Tho frequently disappointing and probably overrated Rockminister attain figured in a dismal and costly failure to the grief of a host of supporters who regarded todays feature, a dash at three-quarters under handicap conditions, as at his mercy, but he was beaten easily by Ird Allen, to which ho was conceding ten pounds. There might have been some excuse for Ills defeat, and Garner, his rider, attributed it to interference he met from Pools action on Casey in riding him close while racing down tho backstretch. hut at that it appeared to close observers that had Rockminister raced up to the rating that he is given by his connections, he would have triumphed easily. Lord Allen raced in the same impressive fashion tliat enabled him to triumph in yesterdays race. He was taken into the lead at once and kept there under restraint until mounting the top of the hill, where his rider sent him along about his business and it was easy for him to remain in the lead through the stretch sprint. Rockminister came gatnely when ridden hard in the stretch, but at no time menaced the leader, Garner, after the finish, complained to the stewards that lool had interfered w.th his mount. Garners riding of Rockminister was not of the vigorous style that enabled him to bring Blue Deep and Tan Son home, respectively, victors in- tho- two preceding races. Gumers masterly rides astride the pair were solely the determining factors in the results. Both won by a matter of inches after stubbornly eon-teslcd drives in which they gained ground by slow degrees and ultimately triumphed in the last strides. In the race that Tan Son won Plus Ultra was possibly best at the weight, but his rider brought him wide into the stretch, incurring a big loss of ground and in the final sixteenth was unable to cope with Gamer in the art of riding a strong finish. On Blue Deep, Garner seemed decisively out of any chance in the last sixteenth, for he was in third place, with Evening Stories out in the lead a seeming winner, but Evening Stories quit unexpectedly in the last twenty yards and was passed by Illue Deep and Beautiful Dream, noses separating the trio. GENTILITY QUALIFIES HANDSOMELY. G. L. Blackfords two-year-old Gentility, a daughter of Light Brigade Ilandzarra, loomed up formidably as a Breeders Futurity candidate by her sterling performance this afternoon in the all age dash over the Futurity course, and her easy victory at the end. Sensational trials that she was credited with recently caused her to receive confident and heavy support. She justified it, for she was right with the leaders in the early running and caine away from them on call in the stretch. Uncle Sonny and Cap Rock, both from the Montfort .Tones stable, finished respectively in second and third places. The sport began with a three-quarters dash for ordinary ones and it enabled Ground-Swell to win her first victory in a long time. She triumphed over the uncertain Gipsy Queen, which was in a running mood this afternoon, Meliora finishing third. . Guaranteed was a well-backed choice in the fifth race and she had no serious difficulty in winning, F:iir Orient landing in second place and Rapid .Stride third. Puts and Calls, starting in this race, showed such poor form that the stewards issued a notice barring him from further racing here. The closing dash found Herd Girl an overwhelming choice, but she was taken into camp in a hot drive by Jouett and Ben Valet. E. H. BRADLEY TO RACE AT PIMLICO. Robert Walden was among todays visitors to witness the racing and do some missionary work on the side in behalf of the Pimlico track. He received assurances from E. R. Bradley that ho would send some of his racers to Baltimore; also received stall reservations from trainer J. I. Smith, who Intends to send Startle to -run in the stake races for two-year-olds. Mr. McDowell has not decided whether he will ship Distinction and others to race at Pimlico. I Trainer Milam docs not intend to send anything to rimlico. Bradley Wilson, who is visiting here, intends to return after the racing to Windsor to observe the improvements that are being added to the Devonshire plant. Firebrand gave a sensational mile and a half trial this morning in preparation for his start in the Lexington Cup next Saturday. He covered the distance in 2:34, his first mile being in l:3Sy3. With Bit of White, Exterminator and Firebrand among the starters, the running of the cup will be a fitting dessert to a sumptuous repast of racing for this year on Kentucky tracks. Jockey Thelen, who underwent an X-ray examination yesterday, was found to be uninjured by his fall from Mary Jane Baker, but will probably be kept out of the saddle for the remainder of the meeting, unless all traces of soreness disappears in the next few days. Ground-Swell changed ownership via the claiming route after the first race, W. O. Stoner securing him at a cost of ,500. Merchant came out of his race yesterday in a bad way and will probably not be in racing condition azan until the Jefferson Park meeting opens. 4
