oftenIt It was not a big field in point of numbers in which Abadane earned his laurels yes ¬ terday afternoon but what the field lacked in numbers was made up in quality First ot all the winner beat such cracks of the PJast and West as Georgie Be Frank Fair ¬ way and two others and his mile in 1 39 was the fastest time for the mile distance at the meeting meetingTo To the credit of the defeated Georgie made the second choice in the betting at book odds of 6 to 5 it must be said that this one from the Colonel R L Baker string ran a good race from a miserable beginning Georgie sulked badly at the start as is his habit and after a little they were off but Georgie dwelt as the barrier arose His jockey AV Pool rode with intelligence and he took his mount right to the rail to save all possible rounding the last turn It was then that jockey Cantrell who had reserved Aba danes speed for the final dash gave his mount his head Slow indeed seemed Be Frank as this consistent runner dashed past him In the twinkling of an eye Aba ¬ dane assumed command and then Georgie offered him challenge However Georgie had spent his best efforts during the early running of the race to make up lost ground and despite the fact that he finished with rare gameness he never got closer than a length to the winner from the eighth post to the end His margin for second place was two and a half lengths in front of Be Frank The latter ran a creditable race and seems to be improving with every start startUnder Under perfect weather conditions it was really a trifle too warm to be comfortable A ladies day crowd
