GREAT DISPLAY OF SPEED Edgar Allan Poe Defeats Ameri ¬ can Ace in FastRun Race Tarson Stable Scores Double vrith Mannchen Mannchenand and Carrie 3Ioorc Drapery Earns EarnsDecision Decision In Stirring Finish HAVANA Cuba February 21 The Cham ¬ ber of Commerce Handicap a dash of three quarters of a mile was offered as the main attraction at Oriental Park this afternoon and furnished a good contest in which Edgar Allan Poe beat American Ace by a scant length The winner set his opponents a ter ¬ rific pace from the start with American Ace furnishing keen contention Chief Sponsor raced with the leaders until rounding the far turn where he dropped out Taylor on the winner was overanxious in the stretch run repeatedly waving his whip and striking his mount a few times to keep him going to withstand the rush of American Ace It was the latters first start at this meeting and hia performance will undoubtedly help him Chief Sponsor making his first start in a month tired badly and was probably a bit short The winner ran the threequarters in 1 11 the first quarter in 22 and the half in 45 5 5A A stirring finish came with the running of the fourth in which the first four passed the winning mark in a compact bunch Red and Bread Line were the ones to make the pace Both drew away in the backstretch racing like a team Stutts followed them entering the homestretch and moved up next the inside rail with Drapery catching and passing the leaders at the sixteenth post At the end Drapery had to stand a desperate drive to stall off Short Stop which closed full of speed in the middle of the track The finish was so close that the winner was in doubt until the official placing was displayed showing Drapery first and Short Stop second by a neck neckAUSPICIOUS AUSPICIOUS RETTJIIX RETTJIIXG G Williams who made his reappearance in the saddle after a three weeks absence made good the first time asked when ho landed Mannchen winner from the heavily backed Cuba Encanto in the first race Cuba Encanto set a fast pace to the eighth post when he began to tire Mannclieii over ¬ hauled him at the end and got up to beat him by a length in a driving finish Twenty Seven was third three lengths back The latter came from last place on the back stretch and finished going fast fastThe The Parson stable made it a double when Carrie Moore came back after Mannchens victory in the opener beating a good band of platers in the second race Carrie Moore began well assumed an easy lead in the first eighth racing under slight restraint until the final sixteenth when Groos shook her up to
