CHALLENGE CUP IN TRUST Jockey Club Announces Terms Under Which Trophy Is Held. International Cnp Subject to Challenge hy Any Nation, hut Ifo Nation Can Start More Than One Horse in the Itace. NEW YORK, N. T., Oct. 27. The Jockey Club has announced in a "Declaration of Trust for the International Challenge Cup" the terms under which future competitions for the trophy now held by America through Zcvs victory over Papyrus may take place. Foreign nations may challenge for the cup through the turf ruling bodies of their respective counties. If a challenge is not accepted within thirty days the cup passes into the hands of the challenging country. The full text of the declaration follows: "The Jockey Club New York has donated a gold cup, to be known as the International Challenge Cup a perpetual challenge trophy to be raced for in friendly competition by representatives of different nations. "The Jockey Club in so doing declares itself to be the first custodian of such cup, and that the race between Papyrus and Zev shall be considered as the first race under this Declaration of Trust. CUSTODY OF THE CTJP. "The cup shall pass into the custody of tho club whose representative is the winner of the challenge race ; and such club shall thereupon become the custodian of the cup, and the cup shall remain in perpetuity open to challenge by representatives of a jockey or racing club of a foreign country having reciprocal relations with the then custodian, and challenges shall be forwarded with the direct sanction of such club. "Any challenge from the United States shall require the sanction of the Jockey Club New York. "The race for the cup shall be at about one and one-half miles for colts and fillies three years old, weight for age, and shall be run under the rules of racing of the then custodian, which club shall nominate a colt or filly to defend the cup. Both the challenger and the defender must have been bred, foaled in and be owned in the country which they represent. TO BE KCX FOR ONCE A YEAK. "The club forwarding the challenge shall nominate a colt or filly, and it shall give three months notice in writing to the custodian, naming the week during the racing season in which the proposed race shall be run, but the custodian shall name the day, hour and course where the race shall be run. The cup shall be run for only once in any calendar year except in the case of a dead beat. The owner of the winner shall have his name and that of his horse, together with the year, inscribed on the cup. "The names and descriptions of the horses shall be announced at least two weeks prior to the date of the race. "In tho event of a challenge not being accepted within thirty days from its receipt, the cup shall pass into the custody of the challenging club. "All matters not above referred to shall be determined by the then custodian in accord- ance with its rules of racing, but no change shall be made in this declaration of trust unless by the unanimous consent of the clubs that have been custodians or have had a representative compete in one of the races for the cup, provided that such clubs are at the time active racing bodies. "Memorandum. Subject to the determination of the custodian a representative of more than one nation may take part in a challenge race, but no nation shall be represented by more than one starter."
