MELACHRINO followed the leaders under slight restraint tntil entering the stretch where he moved .up rapidly and, passing RUBIEN, wen under restraint. LUCKY ANTOINE was hard ridden all the way and, running his usual honest race, responded gamely when called on in the stretch and out-finished TOP SERGEANT. The latter was off slowly and saved for a half mile, then steadily improved his position and, closing a big gap in the final quarter, finished with a rush. RUBIEN set a good pace, but tired after going three-quarters. SOUTH BREEZE raced well. Start good and slow. Won easily; second and third driving. LADY BELLE, prominent from the start, came with a rush through the last eighth and taking the lead won going away. MAD PLAY displayed much speed and, racing VARIATION into defeat, toak a good lead in the stretch, but tired badly in the final sixteenth. ELVINA was hard ridden throughout and, finishing gamely, would have been second in a few more strides. VARIATION set a rapid pace for a half mile. BLIND PLAY was forced to race extremely wide. SWINGALONG began slowly and was rushed up to the leaders on the last turn, but tired in the final drive. FLY BT DAY set a fast pace under slight restraint and finished gamely when challenged. OSPREY, close up tknsghout, moved up menacingly when in the stretch, but tired in the final drive. DOMINIQUE raced wtH on the outside for a half-mile, but gave way in the final eighth. CYCLOPS saved ground on the tea and had no mishaps. SHAMROCK was not perservered with when beaten. HEPHAISTOS was saved under restraint until midway around the last turn, then moved up rapidly when caMed on and took a good lead after entering the stretch, but was under hard riding at the end to maintain his advantage. CHERRY PIE showed the most speed under restraint and saving ground on all the turns responded gamely when called on after entering the stretch, but tired finally. OWASCO began slowly and was far back in the early running, but gradually improved his position in the last half mile, and passing the leaders with a rush, drew far away in the last eighth to win in a canter. SIR GALAHAD II. had a clear course throughout and outfinished KINGS BELLE in the final drive. The latter closed a gap and finished gamely. GRANDSON finished with a belated rush.
