Twenty Years Ago Today Chief Turf Events of Oct 28, 1903. Racing at Aqueduct, Latonia, Worth and St. Louis. Dick Welles will be sent against the record for a mile on a circular track tomorrow between the third and fourth races at Latonia. He will be paced by Redan, First Attempt and possibly another. He will carry 100 pound? and Bridwell will ride him. Horses in training and yearlings composing the stable of Green B. Morris were disposed of at auction at Brighton Beach Thursday, October 22, by the Fasig-Tipton Co. in the presence of a large number of owners. Rapid Water brought the highest prise of the lot, going to John A. Drake for ,600. Edward Corrigan was a liberal purchaser. He paid ,300 for Precious Stone. He also bid ,500 on Rapid Water. Worth is certainly having a run of good weather in the closing week of its fall meeting, and the crowds continue to be flatteringly large. The fourth race today was a free handicap for two-year-olds at three-quarters, and although it was robbed of much of its interest through the withdrawal of Dick Bernard a fair band of eight two-year-olds faced the barrier. Win. Wright was made a decided first choice and rewarded the confidence placed in him by his many backers by winning easily. Aggie Lewis, displaying much speed, led until just before turning for home, where Wm. Wright, which had always been close to her, passed her easily to win by two lengths from Palm Reader, which wasbne" andvofiB4faTf lengths in front of Aggie Lewis for second place. The latter tired badly when the pinch came. Wm. Wright is certainly a fast colt and should make a good three-year-olds. -
