RACELAND WANTS 21 DAYS Tri-State Fair to Ask Kentucky Racing Commission for Dates From July 10 to August 2. LEXINGTON, Ky., Feb. 2S. Following a meeting of the executive committee of the Tri-State Fair and Racing Association here this morning general manager J. O. Keene announced that it was decided to apply to the Kentucky State Racing Commission for twenty-one days for the inaugural race meeting at Raceland. the new track in Greenup County, near Ashland. It is planned to ask for dates beginning Thursday, July 10, and ending Saturday, August 2. If these dates are sanctioned it will mean that Raceland will be open on the Thursday after the close of the Kentucky! Jockey Clubs meeting at Latonia, which will be Saturday, July 5. The Raceland dates include four Thursdays arid four Saturdays, i In the Tri-State section the merchants have half holidays on Thursdays and the manu- facturers and others have half holidays on Saturdays. The Tri-State Fair and Racing Association had hopes of opening Raceland last year, but insurmountable difficulties, over which the officials of that organization had no control, prevented tho realization of these hopes. Everything will be ready next summer, however, and the prospects are particularly bright for a successful inauguration of this newest of racing plants in the Blue Grass State. Manager Keene also stated that the first Tri-State Fair at Raceland will be held during the week of September 1 to September 6. The opening day will be Labor day and the closing day will be Saturday. He expected it to be the greatest fair ever held in the Tri-State section. It will follow the Ohio State Fair at Columbus and the Blue Grass Fair at Lexington and precede the Kentucky State Fair at Louisville.
