Twenty Years Ago Today Chief Turf Events of Feb. 29, 1904 Racing at New Orleans, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Hot Springs. "Bub" May has assured assistant secretary Kelsay of the Washington Park Club of Chicago that he will give Highball a special preparation for ths American Derby and that the celt will be shipped to Chicago from the East, no matter whether other eastern stables are represented or not. Africander looks better than he did at this season last year. He is in grand condition bodily and his legs look strong, smooth and clean. The firing and blistering to which he was subjected have not left a trace of his ailment last autumn, which, after all, was but the result of a tired horse hitting himself in a hard-run race. Unless appearances arc particularly deceptive, he is the largest horse m training at the Gravesend course. He has been working on the Boulevard the past two weeks. J. E. Seagram has made overtures to purchase from C. M. Corbin the brood mare We Know It, by Masetto Wenonah, by Sensation. He has advised Corbin to arrange to breed her the coming season to St. George and then put a price on her. Corbin recently refused ,750 for her. She is a young mare and her grand-dam is a half sister to Domino, her third dam being Mannie Grey. We Know It is the dam of Seagrams good colt Merry England and he is her first foal. This explains the reason the Canadian horseman is endeavoring to secure the noted mare.
