THREE FOR H. STUTTS His Riding Features Monday Program at Hawthorne. Dr. Hickman Finally Makes Good Lugs Outlasts May Buddy in Rousing Duel. HAWTHORNE RACE TRACK, Aug. IS. A five and a half-furlong handicap, with ,500 added, for three-year-olds and upward, featured Hawthornes Monday program and it enabled Dr. Hickman to score his first victory after several attempts in which he always figured prominently, but was beaten out. Dr. Hickman was a pronounced favorite and racing in his best form, he never left the result in serious doubt He moved into a good lead at once, though under restraint and drew out in the stretch to win as his rider pleased. The battle for second place was a spirited one between Miss Cerina and The Runt in the early stages, but Moss Fox II., coming with a terrific rush in the last seventy j-ards, overhauled the pair. The Runt outstayed Miss Cerina. The attendance again reached large proportions, by far better than expectations considering the off-day card, threatening weather and Monday. The riding of jockey Stutts, who returned this morning from Saratoga with the Audley Kami Stable, was the feature of todays sport. His superiority enabled him to win three races with inferior mounts. His first success was achieved with the Audley Farm Stables representative, Hessanna, which beat home Winrock by a matter of inches. Win-rock was pounds the best, but the incompetent Griffin almost fell off immediately after the start and took his mount far out of it until the last eighth. She came like a rocket in the last sixteenth, but just missed getting up. LIEGE BY A NOSE. His second victory ensued in the fifth race, in which he managed to cress the finish line on Liege a nose in advance of Kit. The latter, racing in vastly improved form, was much the best and had Ellis used better judgment in keeping closer to the leaders or had more finishing ability Kit would have won handily. Impossible, the favorite, tired after showing the most speed, but managed-to land in third place. His final success was achieved with Hoy, the extreme outsider in the closing race. He brought him up with a rush, and passed Doritis in the final stride. Boganowski, on the later, failed to note Hoys great rush. Had he been more alert, Dorius would have won. Kauila had extensive support, but dropped out of it in the last eighth. Merri-mac was favored in the race, but showed nothing to warrant the good support he had. Another that was given consideration, The Foreigner, raced far below his best effort, due to Doyle taking him immediately out cf contention and keeping him far out of it throughout. "GOOD THING" BEATEN. A dozen ordinary ones met in the second and it furnished a rousing duel between Lugs and May Buddy, Barrett on Lugs, outfinish-ing Ellis to land his mount a" few inches in advance. Glentilt, backed in confident style, might have won but for a bad beginning and suffering interference. Brian Kent was an intended "good thing" and his connections were not far off in their estimate of the horse, but they were sadly astray of Pendergrass riding ability. He pulled Brian Kent completely out cf it soon after the start and, after racing in last place for a time, began riding wide. The colt ran a winning race. Lady Fox was the easiest winner of the afternoon. Her victory came in the third race after she had led by a wide margin throughout. Muldraugh finished in second place, beating home Climax by a head. There was considerable activity about Rock Heather but Hainsworth was totally at loss what to do and his mount never figured to any serious extent. .
