Twenty Years Ago Today Chief Turf Events of April 3, 1905. Racing at Washington, D. C, New Orleans, Memphis and San Francisco. S. C. Hildreths application for reinstatement as a trainer on the tracks of The Jockey Club was denied at a meeting of the stewards t04lay. Jockey Otto Wonderly died at 11:30 oclock Sunday night at Memphis, Tenn. His death occurred as a result of the injuries he received in his fall on Myopia Saturday. Jockey Harry Baird continues to hold the center of the stage at Benning. He was the feature of the days racing, for he rode three winners, was second ami third in two other races. "Father Bill" Daly has been after Baird and had offere4l ,000 for the papers on the lad. This was refused, Robert Nicholson thinking ihem worth 0,000. There is considerable talk of another match between Gold Rose and Floral King at City Park, New Orleans. "Frisco" Gardner, owner cf the latter, is willing to race his horse against the mare again, but stipulates that the distance must be six furlongs. If the association succeeds in bringing the pair together again, the race will be run next Satur day, providing the track is fast. There was little to enthuse over in the running of the Tennessee Derby at Memphis today. Agile was so vastly superior to John Smulski and Jack Lory that he was merely cantering at the end of the mile and an eighth over a slow track in 1 :58 and he was five lengths before the Ellison colt, which hehl Jack Lory safe. The value of the race to the winner was ,885 and trainer Tucker was congratulated on all sides for the ex cellence of the condition of Captain Browns colt. Many horsemen freely express their belief that this son of Sir Dixon will prove to be the champion of the three year old division in 1905.
