GOOD ROADS TO HAWTHORNE Arrangements Made for Better Auto Transportation — Widening and Improving Streets. The board of supervisors of Cicero and resident manager Charles T. Essig of the Chicago Business Mens Racing Association, held a meeting yesterday pertaining to good roads leading from Ogden avenue to the race track. The Cicero supervisors suggested the paving of 52nd avenue from Ogden avenue to the entrance of the track, with asphalt; widening the street and. at the intersection where the cars come from the viaduct on 52nd avenue, to put in all steel rails, welded, and pave between the tracks. A deal was closed wherein the racing association would take off a tax of ten cents a person which will create a fund to keep the roads in perfect shape, not alone on 52nd avenue, but all roads running West from Ogden avenue. The viaduct under the C. B. and Q. at 48th avenue is to be straightened immediately, making Ogden avenue direct instead of a jog under the viaduct. This has always been a bad spot and, in very wet weather, has been a great annoyance to automobiles especially. The straightening of Ogden avenue means that perfect traffic rides will follow, as the Cicero board will also install signal lights along the entire road. The life of the contract between the village board and the Business Mens Racing Association, will run the life of the lease the association has at Hawthorne. • — .
