OHIO RACING COMMISSION New Organization Formed to Take Over the Control of Sport in Buckeye State. CLEVELAND, Ohio. April 2.— Ohio has fallen in line with New York, Maryland. Kentucky. Nebraska, Nevada and Canada and will branch out with a turf governing body with the opening of the racing season, April 18. There has been a demand for some time for uniformed regulation and control of the sport in the Buckeye State. The new turf governing body will be known as the Ohio State Racing Commission and it is the purpose of the new body to provide uniform government of horse racing on the tracks in the State of Ohio, adopting i j measures for the enforcement thereof, promoting the best interests of the running and harness racing in the state, detecting, pun- I I ishing and preventing fraud in horse racing j j and seeking the general improvement of the ] ] thoroughbred and harness horse. j The incorporators of the Ohio State Racing ! ; Commission met Thursday afternoon and I j elected the following officers : E. W. Swisher, Columbus, president ; John ] ] A. King, Cleveland, vice-president; Win Kin-j ] nan. Cleveland, treasurer ; II. D. Shepard, Columbus, secretary ; W. It. Booker, assistant secretary. j The following stewards have been chosen J to pass on licenses: Joseph A. Murphy, John i Ireland and Win Kinnan. I While not represented at the meeting, it is understood that the racing associations I j at Cincinnati, Toledo, Canton, Akron and j j Youngstown will affiliate with the newly j formed body. j The latter will start functioning with the I | opening of the racing season in Ohio. April | It, and will co-operate to the fullest extent j j with the New York Jockey Club. Maryland, I I Kentucky, Nevada, Nebraska and Canadian Racing Associations, as well as those in Illinois. •
