Y., April 27. — Wrilliam Daniels Master Charlie has gone so seriously omiss again that there remains scant chance for his meeting his engagements in either the Preakness at Pimlico on May 8 or the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs on May 16. It was after a mile work at Jamaica Sunday morning that the son of Lord Archer came back badly lamed and his injury was such that it will be imperative to suspend his training for a considerable time. He had gone an easy mile in 1:42% and it was to have been his final before being shipped to Havre de Grace to meet his engagement in the Chesapeake Stakes, tC be run there Wednesday. Master Charlie was bothered with a splint all through his racing last year, but Andrew Blakely kept him going to such good advantage that he rounded out the year the greatest money winning two-year-old of 1924. When he went into winter retirement he was fired for this affliction and the treatment appeared to be entirely successful. He was put into faining at the Fair Grounds in New York and shortly thereafter a leg that had appeared perfectly sound went wrong. In due time Blakely had him galloping again and no eligible for the Freakness or the Kentucky Derby was training more brilliantly than the imported colt. He was coming out of each gallop in a manner to suggest complete soundness and his becoming lame again, at this time, is a serious blow to the stable.
