CONNAUGHT PARK MEETING First of Midsummer Meetings at Capital Opens July 8 Change as Advocated by Com J K L Ross Promises to Ue Beneficial One Suc ¬ cessful Racing Anticipated OTTAWA Ont June 11 The first meet ¬ ing of the Connaught Park Jockey plub July 8 to 15 which will inaugurate racing for the season on the Quebec tracks operat ¬ ing under the jurisdiction of the Canadian Racing Associations promises to be one of the most successful in the history of the local associations Though midsummer meet ¬ ings will be an experiment in Ottawa there is a feeling that the change advocated and finally secured through the efforts of Com J K L Ross president of the Montreal Jockey Club will prove a beneficial one Already indications point to a record number of horses and a very greatly increased fol ¬ lowing It is felt that the tourist traffic will be heavy during July and August and that the various clubs Connaught Park in ¬ cluded will reap the advantages advantagesIt It was announced today by secretary Gor ¬ man that the Chateau Laurier Handicap the feature of the coming meeting at Connaught Park would be run on Saturday July 10 This will be over a mile and seventy yards for a purse of 1500 and it is likely that the Ross Seagram Wilson Salmon Joyce Bed well Trueman and Smith silks will also figure in this feature The club will distrib ¬ ute about 15000 in stakes and purses at its first meeting and a like amount for the sec ¬ ond series which opens on August 5 and con ¬ tinues until August 12 12Joe Joe McLennan will again act as recording secretary for Connaught Park and Mortimer Mahoney will be in charge of the mutuel department Owners who intend to ship to Ottawa are requested to write or wire secre ¬ tary Gorman immediately as many appli ¬ cations have already l een received and accommodations will be limited limitedRacing Racing at Connaught Park will again take place under the patronage of PI is Excellency Baron Byng of Vimy who is honorary presi ¬ dent of the jockey club clubThe The work of putting Connaught Park back into shape for the summer season is well under way and the track itself will be ready for workouts within a few days daysMr Mr Francis Nelson will be steward repre ¬ senting the Canadian Racing Associations at Connaught Park while Messrs J B Camp ¬ bell and E C St Pere M P will be stewards representing the Connaught Park Jockey Club
