BETTING IN COOK COUNTY States Attorney Crowe Places PlacesBan Ban on Wagering at Tracks Tracksin in This County There will be no racing in Cook County this year at least none under any organized system of betting Such is the dictum of States Attorney Robert E Crowe who told Thomas E Bourke general manager of the Illinois Jockey Club which had announced a summer meeting at Homewood to begin July 3 that if any attempt was made to hold a race meeting at his track or any other course within the limits of Cook County at which betting of any description was tol ¬ erated he would take steps to close the course where such violations of the law occurred occurredEvidently Evidently officials in downstate counties apparently construed the law dealing with certificate mutuel wagering differently than States Attorney Crowe as this form of speculation has been adopted at Aurora and at the Fairmount track at Collinsville 111 near SL Louis
