STARS IN FAIRMOUNT DERBY « ___ Bagenhaggage and Boot to Boot to Have Opponents Worthy of Name « Haste and Rock Man to Represent the East — Token Coming From Canada — Great Race in Prospect • COLLIXSVILLE, 111.. June 16. — The Fairmount Derby, to be run next Saturday, in addition to arousing vast public interest, is steadily taking on country wide attention due to the fact that some of the most noted racing stars will try conclusions and strive for the rich stake that carries an endowment of 5,000 added. Fntil recently it was the general belief that E. R. Bradley, master of Idle Hour Farm, held a mortgage on the race with his Bagenbaggage and Boot to Bool, winner and runner-up in the Louisiana and Latonia Derby. Few critics, if any, were willing to prophesy that the Bradley twain would have any serious contention to laud first and second places. General belief in their easy success was based on the theory that no formidable opposition would be brought here to start against the pair. — ® With the arrival of Bock Man from New York anei the announcement by trainer C. Ham Keene that he was sending .1. 10. Wideners Haste from Xew York with a view to his starting in the Derby here Saturday, came a different complex, and at once the race takes on an importance second only to that had Babbling Over. Carlaris and Crusader heen certain Starters. According to well informed quarters. Haste raced admirably in the Felmont Stakes, in which he finished third. Some an- inclined to believe had the Felmont Stakes distance heen a mile and a quarter Haste would have duplicated his Withers success. The Fair-mount Derby distance is at a mil.- and a quarter. Hock Man also showed a smashing performance for a mile and a quarter of the Felmont race. He stood the trip from Xew York in good style, thr ugh it entailed a forty-eight hours* confinement in a special car to come here. EXPKCT TOKF.X TO SI ART. Another Richmond in the field loomed this afternoon when Tokens owner advised that he would in all probability send Token here. Token has heen a frequent winner recently on Canadian tracks, including a triumph in the Hamilton Derby. Token is just beginning to show the promise that trainer James Howe of the H. P. Whitney stable predicted for him. At present, the Darby field nrnialsisi to cc nsi.st of at least eight starters, possibly nine. It will emhrace some of the beat three-year-old colts in the country. Mrs. Margaret Kmerson Bakers Rink Man was given a strong mil.- and a quarter e-an-ter this morning, cove-ring the distance- in 2:14. No attempt was made to press the colt at any stage of the work. He has been in active training sinee early this spring and his trainer holds him well conditioned for his Derby start Saturday. Mrs. Hmerscm Faker will arrive in her private car with a party of friends Friday to witn.-ss the race. Fagenhaggage and Foot to Boot, the 1 •:. R Fradley pair, which will rale favorites in the race, were given their final trial this morning. Beth performed impressive-lv. though held in restraint. They wen- each sent the mile and a quarter distance unac-eompanied. Bagcnbagga g.s trial was the more to the rail birds liking He concluded the distance- in 2 :0.t hard held all during the last quart, r and showed up well all the way. He went along at an e-v.-n pace for the first mile as follows: Quarter. :2f ; half. :51 ; three-quarters, 1:16, and mile- in 1:42. Boot to Boot fid lowed and also took kindly tO his exercise. The fractional time- and final for the mile and a quarter was recorded ii ■iititnn-il on tvrt-ntietli BSge,] FAIRMOUNT PARK DERBY Continued from first pnge as follows: Quarter, :2.r , half mile. r.OA : three-quarters, 1 :1G% ; mile, 1 :42%, and mile and a quarter, 2:10. Roth colts gave unmistakable evidence of thorough fitness by the prompt manner in which they cooled out. leneral manager C. Bruce Head was advised this morning by trainer !. H. Keene of the J. E, Widener racing establishment that Haste was on his way here and that the crack colt would be an arrival Thursday. Mr. Keene also notified Mr. Head that jockey Sande and himself would leave for St. Louis Thursday and would arrive the following day. Haste will have an extensive following for it is admitted that he will be a potential factor in the result, but Bradley sentiment in this section is almost as strong as it is in Kentucky and for that reason alone the Bradley pair will enjoy favoritism. There will be no extra charges for reservations made for grandstand or clubhouse seats on Derby day. AH boxes in the clubhouse and grandstand have been reserved, the demand being far in excess of the number available. Owner B. R. Bradley will also be an arrival with a party of friends from Latonia l-riday to witness the running of his pair of colts in the Derby. Owner C 10. Durnell intends to send Smiling Ous here from Aurora to be a starter in the race and has offered 10. Pool the mount. Others that are expected to go to the post in the race and whose coming will occur during the next few days include Khinock and Recollection. This pair are at present at Latonia.
