MACAW IN EASY FASHION ♦ Makes Good for H. P. Whitney in the Broadway Stakes. • Leads Home Sir Stuart and Light Carbine — Goodly Crowd Present Despite Chilly Breezes. ♦ AQUEDUCT, N. Y.. June 16.--H. P. Whitneys Macaw made good in the running of the mile and a sixteenth of the Broadway Stakes at the Aqueduct course today. This eras a prize for the three-year-olds and was worth $: ,S2Fi to the winner. Sir Stuart, an added starter from the Fog Cabin Stud Stable, raced to second place, and I. B. Humphreys Fight Carbine, showing Improved form, saved third from the Glen Fiddle Stables Corvette. While there was an unseasonable chill in the air a goodly crowd was out for the spurt and the races were worthy of the crowd. The track was at its best hut nothing sensational was accomplished in the way of time marks and some of the winners aroa with plenty to spare. The victory of Macaw was one of the easy ones of the day and there was no time in the running that the son of Feter Fan was seriously threatened. Fegining well, McAtee at once sent Macaw into the lead and he led throughout the running while Sir Stuart at all times held the others safe. In the stretch Macaw drew out readily and at the finish he was in hand five lengths before Sir Stuart. In the early racing Flyman, the starter from the Hrookmcade Stable, was in rather close quarters on the inner rail ami win n Maihen OOUld not find room to come through he eased back until the colt was last of the field, letter when called en Flyman w;us unable to make up any ground and altogether his was a dull race. Hut it was hardly as dull as the showing of Robert Odoms Fight View. This fellow had beaten Cartoonist with such consummate ease at Bcl-mont Fark that he seemed to have a royal chance for the Broadway, hut he had none of the speed that he displayed at the Belmont! race and he was last of the field at the finish. Corvette showed some improvement to finish fourth but they were all beaten so Continued «u twentieth pace MACAW IN EASY FASHION Continued from first page easily by Macaw that there was little to interest in the running. W. A. Wollmans Duuhy proved best of the platers that went to the post in the opening six and a half furlongs dash. He returned to the scales limping badly and it may be some time before he is seen under silks again. The start was a good one and Shurpe at once sent Danby into command. Pheasant went after him and he gave him plenty of contention all through the running, but the • ■rippled son of Star Master stuck it out tramely though it was apparent at the end that his weak legs were giving him no end of trouble. Wildlane raced forwardly throughout and readily saved third from Linsjard. The steeplechase of the day brought together rather an ordinary band of jumpers, and it resulted in a victory for Morning Mist, from Thomas Hitchcocks P.road Hollow Stable. To score here, he defeated Mrs. H. Dattners Henry Dattner and Ral Parrs Kangaroo was a distant third over Harry Payne Whitneys Knchantment. making his first appearance in the field. The only other starter was S. H. Cross Sister Clell, and she went down at the sixth jump, giving W. Green rather a bad shaking up. Kleeger rushed Henry Dattner out from the drop of the flag and, in the first turn Of the course, he had opened up a long lead. The others were in a fairly close bunch, but Knchantment was jumping badly and being ridden rather timidly by J. Lambert. Sister Clell was going well when she came down, but they were all just about a field hick of the Dattner horse, on which Kleeger seemed to be in an altogether unnecessary hurry. At the second turn of the course. Henry Dattner showed signs of tiring, and be was not jumping so cleanly, while Morning Mist was gradually closing the gap. Sixteen cheap ones met in the third race St one mile and Skit, from the Swingalong Stable, proved the winner when he led home Mrs. H. H. Hollis Sweep It and O. C. Dennys Valletta was third. Romany was an unfortunate in the running when after being away well he was badly shut off and knocked back shortly after leaving the hack stretch. But for this he might readily have shared in some division of the purse Frank Browns Titan was a good horse in the fifth race when he ran off from his company and won by a wide margin. Mrs. A. W. Swenkes Sherman, after a string of five consecutive victories, raced to second place and beat Charles A. Mills Millwi-k for that part of the purse, with Silver Finn and Salta chasing him home. At the end of the program there came one of the best finishes of the day when Samue! Boss Mariner just beat home H. K. Bliss Poeaonkey, with False Pride, from the stable of A. H. Morris, finishing third. Tipstaff in this running swerved repeatedly and can do iKtter. while False Pi ide was making a first racing effort and he is another that will show to better advantage later.
