III., June IC— The Pen-thorn Stables My Colonel, a winner in his initial start here, duplicated that success in the Fast St. Louis Junior Chamber of Commerce Purse, which featured Fairmount Parks program and won with ridiculous ease from a good band, that included Bloek-h ad and Fast Time, and in running the three-quarters in l:ll4r,. equaled the track record made by Reputation. My Colonel took kindly to his light impost and displayed keen speed from the start, leading throughout and drawing out decisively in the stretch to win as his rider pleased, r.lockhead made a game effort in the stretch and succeeded in wearing down the others, but was unable to gain on the leader. My Colonel was a pronounced favorite. What at first promised to be disagreeable conditions, the sky being blanketed with ominous clouds that threatened a downpour at any minute, finally became ideal for the sport and brought out another glorious attendance. They witnessed some close and spectacular sport, coupled with some record br akir.g performances. C. Koerner just missed making it a triple for the afternoon, the failure of Blockhead in the feature being the obstacle as Bean Butler and Orbit carrying his colors had previously accounted for their respective purses. Beau Butler in the early part of the race was a distant follower but he came with a great show of speed during the stretch and wore elown Bulletin to win drawing away. Bulletin was pressed hard by Hourmore but the Laffooa colt just managed to hold on long enough to get second place. Hourmoie was tin favorite and with a better ride-would probably won. Jockey Philpot had a narrow escape from serious injury in the second race, when his mount, Tromping To Day, was crowded, causing the rider to be unseated. He was shaken and sustained bruises, but continued riding during the afternoon. A thrilling finish of three came when Shasta Hutte. inome Second and Foretop finished noses apart. Fore-top had been the leader up to the last few strides, where he was overhauled by Shasta Butte and Inome. The latter was one of the sufferers from interference and raced in winning form. T. Koerners Orbit, a first time starter here, made his debut an auspicious one when he showed the most speed in the third race and outstayed Forete.I, the favorite. The pair fought it out strenuously all during the stretch, with Orbit holding to his task in game fashion and winning by a short neck. Foretell raced prominently and well all during the three-quarters, but was not good enough for the winner. Pipes of Pan came with a rush in the last sixteenth to get up in the last stride for third place. Dr. T. S. Dabney had to race In his best style to succeed in outstaying French Lady after a hard drive in the sixth race. The pair fought it out hard all during the stretch, Dabney holding on the latter.
