t NEW YORK TURF NOTES ? ยง and NEW YORK, N. Y.. April 1. Sarmaticus is a picture horse. He is big and muscular and as full of life as a two-year-old. He literally eats up the track and wants his head every foot of the way. Field Marshal is going fast in his gallops and he promises more now than ever was expected of him as a two-year-old. The Man o War filly in George Odoms stable is a little beauty and she brings a smile of approval to her trainers face every time she gallops. She has been one of the easiest to handle among the Man o Wars at Belmont. John Loftus had his string out early and the raJlbirds are keeping a close watch on Rumplemayr, the German-bred colt. He looks as if he will be about the best of the lot in the Harzburg sale. Howard Oots has the Hamilton Farm horses at Belmont and will train them this season. He has not had the opporunity to try out all of them and he will not undertake to get them down to hard work until they have had the chance to become more familiar with outdoor work. John Kermath expects to have the W. J. Salmon steeplechasers in the best of condition for the hunts meeting and he will race them wherever there is an opportunity for jumpers. Al Blount has received word from Bill Knapp that he is shipping from Jefferson Park, New Orleans, to Jamaica, and will arrive some time this week. Knapp raced the horses of J. J. Timmerman at New Orleans during the winter. The two-year-old I Told You is considered the best in the sta-j ble. The colt is a big fellow. He is close to sixteen hands high and weighs about 1.200 pounds. Schooling of steeplechasers has been exceptionally active during the past week. Superintendent Pels has opened a number of the jumps to the trainers who are preparing candidates for the events on the card at the United Hunts meeting, which will serve as the curtain raiser for the Metropolitan racing. Walter Goodwin, polo enthusiast and owner of the Goodstone Stable, was a visitor today at Belmont Park. He conferred with Max Hirsch, v ho is in charge of the Goodstone racers.
