* # Man o* Wars Selections At Jefferson Park O o One Best Bet — SCOTLAND — in the Sixth Race. A fine program will be offered for the final day at Jefferson Park. Three-year-olds will share the leading parts with the older ones, the card holding a double feature in the Maryland Handicap, at three-quarters, and the Illinois Purse, at one mile. The latter is given over exclusively to three-year-olds and promises to bring under colors Scotland, Po ridge. Black on White, Jack Horgan, Best Friend, Aregal and Comtade. For the Maryland such capable ones as Old Slip, Sir Peter, Silver Song. Huntsman. Florence Mills, Tempest. General Haldeman. David L, Cyclops, Massillon. Rival and All Baba are entered and their meeting should bring a race well worthy of the place accorded this number on the program. Then, too, there is the Kentucky Purse, at one-half mile, for two-year-olds ; and. while the eight entered are not topnotchers, the field is well balanced. Platers will head the list in the remaining numbers, two of which will be decided over the mile and a sixteenth, one at three-quarters, and the closing race of the day at one mile and a half. BABBLING— PASSPORT— HARRY B. BABBLING should emerge victor at the nd of the one mile and a sixteenth of the opening race. She has been racing better than in some time and, from recent performances, is the solid horse of the field. PASSPORT has ability and if she can go the distance should prove a contender. HARRY B. and KIYI are likely to prove difficult to beat. OMNIA is well placed and dangerous, if ready. THE VINTNER—DOLLY BAY— BILLY WITT. THE VINTNER is given another chance to score in the second, but if he succeeds in downing DOLLY BAY, BILLY WITT, ROD-RIGO and HATS UP the gelding will know he has been to the races. DOLLY BAY is real sharp and she should step along in top form. BILLY WITT raced smartly in a small field last time out and probably will have to overcome much blocking, due to his inside post position here. RODRIGO is dropping down several notches and ready for his best. HATS UP has found his best form in some time. TORRENCE is of the improving sort. BLUE TORCH— LUCY KATE— DELHI BOY. If BLUE TORCH gets into the starting field for this he will be a hard one to beat. LUCY KATE is a tough one in this company and has been knocking at the door in recent races. She should prefer the distance over the more lengthy route of her latest engagements. DELHI BOY, if accorded the kind | of handling necessary to bring out his best, I is certain to figure seriously. His last race should benefit him. AROMATIC— QUICKEN— COL. BOB. j AROMATIC had little chance in her last race, as she began slowly and was made | much use of in the first quarter. This early effort resulted In her tiring through the stretch. With an outside post position for todays engagement she should show improvement enough to win. QUICKEN is likely to show a better race than last time out. COL. BOB displayed keen speed on a dull track last time out and is entitled to high consideration. SIR PETER— OLD SLIP— GENERAL HALDEMAN. Under prevailing weights the better sprinters of the fifth race should provide a sharp tussle. There is little to choose between SIR PETER, OLD SLIP, GENERAL HALDEMAN and FLORENCE MILLS and if they run to figures a tight finish should result. SIR PETER is selected with a hope he may have benefited from that last race. OLD SLIP needs no introduction and if he contributes another of his good races should be found among the lesders at the finish. GENERAL HALDEMAN is exceptionally good just now and if away well his speed should permit him to compete with a degree of effectiveness. FLORENCE MILLS outfig-ures the others. Throwing out her last race, TEMPEST has a good chance. SCOTLAND— PORRIDGE— BEST FRIEND. In his present form SCOTLAND should have little trouble winning over the field carded to meet at one mile in the sixth race. He has a big pull in the weights and looks like the most likely winner of the afternoon. PORRIDGE bore out badly in the Louisiana Derby. If he runs kindly here he should prove the runner-up. BEST FRIEND has outraced the others and should last to save third from JACK HORGAN. BLACK ON WHITE and the others must improve to upset calculations. CORPOSANT— MARENGO— CHIEF TIERNEY. CORPOSANT, MARENGO and CHIEF TIERNEY should prove the most successful in the closing race. The former appears to have slightly more class than the others. MARENGO seldom fails to race successfully in this company and, while mt fond of such a long distance, may outstay CHIEF TIERNEY for second. The latter is at the peak of his form, but is moving up out of less capable company and may be overmatched. LONGCHAMPS appears next best.
