I j i DERBY CANDIDATES ACTIVE Martie Flynn, Mickey D., Dodg- son and Lieutenant Mansfield in Slow Gallops. LEXINGTON", Ky., April 9.— While a heavy track yesterday brought training operations at the local course to a standstill, the improved or slow track this morning opened the way for a resumption of brisk preparation. Yesterdays suspension of work naturally resulted in a great number of racers indulging in brief blowouts today and tomorrow when a fast track is likely. The most extensive period of spring training is looked for. Horses scheduled to be set down for ambitious work tomorrow include practically all of the outstanding candidates for the Kentucky Derby under preparation here. This morning. C. W. Moores Martie Flynn and Lieutenant Mansfield and Col. R. L. Bakers Col. Board were opened up for more exacting work tomorrow, and R. S. Clarks Dark Eagle. Everglade Stables Dodgson and other less noted candidate were exercised lightly in preparation for displays of speed twenty-four hours hence. Martie Flynn, in company with I. Davis, breezed three-eighths in the slow footing in :41, while Lieutenant Mansfield was ; given a slow five-eighths in 1 :08. Col. Bob i was under stout restraint while traversing ; a half mile in M%. Dark Eagle and Dodgson were galloped a trifle more than a mile each at a leisurely pace, and J. C. Milam sent his Charlie Bergin, Lucky Hit and [ Dearinez to the sand track to breeze about three-quarters each around 1 :22. Mickey D., William Dondas three-year-old, negotiated three-eighths in :39, breezing ; easily. Owner Dondas was here for the day and, along with inspecting id i horses, did a measure of missionary work in behalf of the coming Arlington Park meeting. He reports the demand for stabling accommodations i mounting daily and is confident that +he supply . of quarters will be insufficient to meet ; the demand. C. Ormsby, well known Louisville turfman, is an arrival from that city to remain for • the entire local season. Sam C. Xuckols, prominent racing official, . was a visitor for the day. H. S. Hart reports the arrival of a chestnut filly foal by Chilhowee — ZeUa at Tolly Youngs i farm. The foal arrived last night and is , Zekas first. Jockey A. Abel, who is here with the stable . of C E. Anthony, expects to leave for Xew . York about May 1. J. B. Partridge, accompanied by jockey W. Rowden drove over from Louisville for the week end. Partridge today sent three two-year-olds . and the oiler Rasull to Churchill I Downs to go into training. They have been ! running out. Their arrival at the Downs will 1 complete the assembling of the entire Partridge . stable there. ▲
