I MARYLAND TURF NOTES | • « HAVRE DE GRACE, Md., April 21. James Fitzsimmons wired jockey P. Goodwin to report at Jamaica on Monday. The Wheatley Stable, for whom Fitzsimmons trains, has second call on Goodwin for the present season. There are fifty-seven horses on the preferred and nineteen on the schooling list at Havre de Grace. G. R. Bryson purchased from M. Keefe the contract on the apprentice P. Palumbo. Al Rohrback was a visitor at the course. He came down from Wilmington, Del., where he has made his home for the past four years. Today was jockey Merglers birthday and he celebrated the occasion by resuming riding after a five-days suspension. Mergler was 21 years old today. The stewards ordered that jockey J. C. Mergler be suspended for the remainder of the meeting after he fulfills his mounts today. The suspension came about for his crossing over sharply on his rivals in the last race, in which he had the mount on Laddie Buck. Mose Goldblatt shipped to Kentucky the horses he will race for Harry Payne Whitney. They include Afterglow, The Bat, John Peel, The Geyser, Polly wog and Chicola. The colt Golden West, which he purchased at the Island Farm sale, was included in the shipment. J. Hartford purchased Rcpenter from II. P. Whitney yesterday, and C. Manley secured the plater Acrostic. Bobbie Bowers left for New York with the H. P. Whitney jockeys T. Root and R. Workman. He will make their engagements at Jamaica. A. Pascunia, J. Josiah and F. J. Baker also departed for Jamaica. The horses which were knocked down to Dr. Richards at the sale Friday were for W. A. Crawford, who trained the Island Farm horses for the past two years. It is understood that they will race in Crawfords name on the New York tracks. E. Trueman is shipping the public stable he has here over to Pimlico next week. James Boderj was called to his home in Brooklyn on account of the illness of his mother. This accounted for Patricia J. being withdrawn from the Eclipse Handicap this afternoon. The jumpers that Matt Brady has been training at Bennings for J. E. Davis arrived at Pimlico this morning. J. G. Bussey added the useful plater Lewis to the band he is gathering for a campaign on the Canadian tracks. He claimed the horse out of the seventh race for ,500. W. Curran has ararnered to ship the Louisiana Derby winner Jack Higgins to Kentucky at the conclusion of the Havre de Grace meeting. Daffodil, the beaten favorite in the seventh race on Friday, was jumped on and cut down ■taring the running. This means his temporary retirement. — . «. — , — . , — ,
