WOMEN OWNERS IN ENGLAND Last year eighty women were represented by winners of flat races in England, the most successful being Mrs. D. Gardner. Mrs. S. Whitburn and Mrs. T. Carthew for whom S. "Woottcn trains also did well. The most prominent were: Races Total Won. Stakes. Mrs. D. Gardner 18 2,315 Mrs. S. Whitburn 12 21,495 Mrs. T. Carthew 15 20,270 Mrs. G. H. Drummond 10 20,140 Lady Torrington 8 17,305 Mrs. J. Arthur 7 15,370 Lady Fitzwilliam 5 15,290 Lady Xunbuinholme 1 12,975 Lady Kedleston 3 10,530 Mrs. L. Schaverien 3 10,435 Mrs. J. Bancroft 7 9,660 Cross-country racing specially appeals to women owners in England. It is not unusual I to see six or seven with entrants for a j hurdle race or stcepechase.
