Marks good son of Upset — St. Theresa, b continues to hold a place in the front rank j, of Kentucky Darby hopefuls, when he furthered his preparation for that race with an ° easily done ini!e at Churchill Downs this ii in morning. Under the guidance of jockey Wil- o of lie Garner, who will ride him in the Derby, o Misstep went the distance in 1:41% and was s eased up when he reached the end of a mile e and an eighth in 1 :5G%. He was aceom- f panied in the trial by Mop Up. another eligible in the coveted race, owned by Mr. Marks, f Mop Up failed to keep up with his stable- c mate. He was timed going the mile in 1:41%. ■ a Trainer Mose Lowenstein had prescribed a I mile in "about 1:13,** for Misstep, according g to jockey Garner. The latter said the colt v ran along so easily that "I could have taken him back to a slower pace." Garner ex- v pressed belief that Misstep could have worked f a mile in 1 :"S without being extended to g the limit. 1 The track was in fine condition when the s Marks pair galloped and Lowenstein had them on the track early. [ Late in the morning trainer B. Michell a a brought out Airs. John D. Hertz Reigh Count, the Derby favorite, for a light as- c signment that required him to perform a a quarter of a mile. Their ] trainer called upon them for slightly more effort than their stablemates and, breaking together from the barrier, they were sent t seven-eighths each. Reigh Olga went in 1 :30 and Sea Rip a second slower, both galloping i in hand. Reigh Olga went-the half mile in 1 :50 and three-quarters in 1 :lt% and Sea Rip 1 was caught in :50M; for a half and 1:16% for i three-quarters. C. E. Durnells Irish Pal negotiated a mile i i in 1 :44%. The son of Prince Pal went the quarter in :2t . half mile in :513.-, and three- I | i quarters in 1 ilSVs. He galloped easily and 1 owner-trainer Darnell expressed satisfaction ] with the woik and the horses present condi- I tion. He remarked that the colt will be t a starter in the Derby. Durnell ordered a fast gallop for the Three i Ds Stables Stamford and Sandrine and they i responded impressively by doing a half mile t together in :4S. Sandrines work was the best of the two. Blackwood and Dowagiac, the Derby eligibles of the Bloomfield Stable of Messrs. F. J. I Navin, W. O. Briggs and C. T. Fisher, all of Detroit, were sent one mile and a half mile respectively. The former ran the distance in :24%, :36%. :50, 1 :03%, 1:18, 1:31% and 1 :44% handily. He bore out when negotiating the stretch turn. Dowagiac accompanied Blackwood from the barrier and was pulled up after a half mile in :50. Jockey Frank Chiavetta had the mount on Blackwood. ADDITIONAL GALLOPS. Additional trials by Derby eligibles included light work by J. C. Milams Lucky Hit and the Everglade Stables Dodgson, both unbeaten in their engagements during the Lexington meeting. Lucky Hit galloped three-quarters in 1 :20, while Dodgson raced as easily while going-five eighths in 1:08%. Jack Higgins. V. Currans winner of the Louisiana Derby, which arrived here Saturday from Maryland, was sent three-eighths in :38 handily. It was his first work and probably fashioned in the nature of a preliminary for more ambitious work tomorrow. Bray bant turned in a half mile in :50% ; Pollywog three-quarters in 1 :17, driving ; Nick Cullop three-eighths in :36, easily ; Dixie Prince three-quarters in 1 :17%, and Marhi a mile in 1 :43. Sunday morning A. A. Kaisers Bonivan, winner of the Camden Handicap at Lexington, went a mile in 1 :45% er.sily. He w- s pulled up in 2 :14 for one mile and a quarter. Additional Sunday gallops included Martie Flynn, three-quarters in 1 :14 under light weight: Cartago. three-eighths in :36%, driving ; Golden Racket, three-eighths in :36, driving; Whiskarm, a mile in 1:45%, easily; Longridge, three-quarters in 1:14, driving; Algol, three-quarters in 1 :16%. handily, and Bar None, three-quarters in 1:15, handily. Two Dans, among the Derby candidates in the stable of J. J. Coughlin, went three-eighths in :37%. easily, over the Douglas Park track this morning. •
