COLUMBUS. Ohio. May 7.— C. II. Morrisons Osman provided an upset when he beat J the best field starting at Beulah Park this c afternoon in the fifth race. Although he began slowly, the Atheling II. gelding stead- J ily improved his position and, coming fast » on the outside in the stretch, passed Clydella the last few strides. Clydella disposed Nayarit and Finday when straightened out for tne run home, but failed to with- c stand the winners challenge. Nayarit, the early leader, saved the short end of the purse s from the tiring Finday. • Although overhead conditions were most favorable and the track was at its best, a • cold wind swept the course, making top coats l necessity for comfort. It being Ladies ■ Day, the fair sex swelled the attendance greatly, which was unusually large for a • wash day. Out of Sight also provided the unexpected -when she led throughout afcd in a driving finish annexed the initial race by the closest of margins. Southern Pacific made a gal- lant effort to overhaul the winner in the * stretch and just failed to get up. Another winner which came from unex- ■ pected quarters, Mercedes E., finished with f brilliant rush through the stretch to head Whisky Run in the final stages of the sec- ■ ond race. Wine Jug set out to make a run- away affair of the race, but she quit badly when the real test came and was a distant J third. After threatening to win for some time, f Regularity finally made good for C. R. Camp-bell when she won the third race rather "■ handily after leading most of the distance. Pennyrile. always in closest attendance of the J winner, was best of the others. Finishing with his accustomed burst of speed, Praise swept past the leaders and J drew away handily in the stretch run of the fourth race. Wildcat seadily improved his ! position and outstayed the tiring pacemaker Dr. John Kenney for second. It remained for the seventh race to pro- vide the most thrilling finish of the day when he three placed horses reached the finish closely lapped. Sea Fairy, coming with a rush on the outside, earned the verdict in the final stride from Rebeck. which made a game finish after having raced Panorel into submission. Irish Ruins also made a strong . challenge in the stretch and finished in close quarters between the leaders. Reap found an opening next to the inner , rail while on the last bend in the sixth number and, after a game finish, wore down the pacemaker Rosabella in the last few yards. , Foreclose just got up to head Viking for third. Jonas Pletsch, who is extensively interested in Beulah Park, was taken ill yesterday and is confined in Mercy Hospital with kidney trouble. Jockey C. Kingsland. who fell Friday with Deputy, is showing steady improvement at . Mount Carmel Hospital and is now considered out of danger.
