BOBASHELA DISPLAYS SENSATIONAL SPEED ♦ Goes One Mile in 1:41 2-5 Over Muddy Track in Workout — — — — — — ♦ Audley Farm Stables Ormondale-Trappoid Colt Startles Horsemen at Churchill Downs — Carries Derby Weight of 126 Pounds « LOUISVILLE, Ky., May 16.— That the Audley Farm of B. B. Jones of Berry-ville, Va., will have formidable representation in Saturdays renewal of the Kentucky Derby was well demonstrated when that establishments Bobashela participated in an almost phenomenal gallop over a muddy track at Churchill Downs this morning. The merit of Bobashelas work is revealed in comparing it with the gallops of the nine other intended Derby starters that had further prepared for the race during the morning. The Wheatley Stables Distraction went the Derby distance of a mile and one-quarter in 2:11%, driving the mile in 1 :43 ; R. E. Leichleiters Cartago was caught in 1 :59 for a mile and an eighth, driving, the mile in 1:44%, and Typhoon went a mile in 1 :44% rather easily. Bonivan went a mile in 1:44%, while doing a mile and an eighth in 1:58% handily: Don Q. completed a mile in 1 :46, while on his way over the full Derby course in 2:14%, driving, and Sortie required 1 :46% to do a mile. Martie Flynn ran a mile and an eighth in 2:01 easily, reaching the end of the mile in 1 :48%. BEGINS AT STAND. Bobashelas excellent gallop was under the direction of S. M. Henderson, developer of the colt, and under the guidance of jockey H. Fisher, with his full Derby impost of 126 pounds. He began at the stand and traversed the opening quarter in :23%, a half-mile in :4S%, and completed three-quarters in 1 :14%. He was shaken up In the last quarter, but the well proportioned bay was not fully spent in completing the mile in 1:41%. The trial won additional credit, in the fact that the colt worked alone and was going over a track altogether new to him. Trainer Henderson regards him as capable on a muddy course as on the dry, and expressed satisfaction over the colts response and present condition. Distraction ran well in the uncertain going in his work, which was far above an ordinary one. Blinkers were part of his equipment. He went the quarter in :25, half mile in :49%, three-quarters in 1:16. mile in 1:43, and mile and a quarter in 2:11%. He was under vigorous riding after going seven-eighths. He was well in hand throughout the mile and went the quarter in :24%, half mile, in :50%, three-quarters in 1:18%, and mile in 1:44%.. He was just cantering when he reached the end of the Derby route in 2 :15%. Bob McMillan superintended the colts training and announced that he expected IT. G. Bedwell, who will saddle the horse for the Derby, here for the race Friday. BONIVAN WORKOUT. Bonivan, which will carry the colors of A. A. Schwartz, was accompanied to the track by A. II. Cosdens Vito. The latter sulked and was hard driven in his work over one mile in 1 :51%. Sortie went in :25%. :51%. 1:18%, 1:46%, and pulled up one mile and an eighth in 2 :01%. Toro, which carried the colors of E. B. The Salubria Stables English colt Strolling Player had his final preparation for the Derby when he worked a mile and an eighth over the Downs track this afternoon. Accompanied by Betty Ames during the final half mile, he ran the distance in 1 :5C%. He was timed in :24% for the quarter, :49 for the half, 1:15 for the three-quarters, and 1 :41% for one mile. The track was in a slow condition. Contrary to reports no requests for stable accommodations for Mrs. Graham Fair Van-derbilts Oh Say and Harry F. Sinclairs Mowlee had been received at the Churchill Downs offices up to a late hour this afternoon. Both horses have been mentioned as likely Derby starters.
