ARLINGTONS PRIZE RACE American Thoroughbred Championship, With 5,000 Added, to Be Run September 1. The American Thoroughbred Championship, at a mile and an eighth for two-year-olds and upward, the added value being 5,000, in addition to which there will be presented to the winner a gold cup, to become a permanent possession when twice won by the same horse, is to be decided under the auspices of the American National Jockey Club at Arlington Park Saturday, September 1, this year. Maj. Frederic McLaujhlin, president of the American National Jockey Club, made this announcement Friday night. It is the first of a series of similar announcements respecting feature offerings at Arlington Bark. The American Thoroughbred Championship in its elasticity will enable every great horse in America to compete. It means that Reigh Count, Kentucky Derby winner ; Toro, winner of the American Derby ; Vito, triumphant in the Belmont Stakes ; Victorian, Preakness winner ; in fact, the stars of any age this year in the ascendancy now or developed prior to September 1 are eligible. Nominations are now in order. Not only will the American Thoroughbred Championship serve as the dazzling topliner at the summer meeting of seventeen days opening August 27, but it will be followed by the American National Futurity, with 5,000 added, a three-quarters mile event for two-year-olds, to be decided Saturday, September 8. This fixture, which closed originally March 1, then was reopened, closing June 15, with a number of nominations, embracing the juveniles developed in western and eastern racing during the past six weeks.
