DUFFERIN PARKS OPENING Popular Half Mile Track in Heart of Toronto to Throw Open Gates Today. TORONTO, Ont., June 15.— Dufferin Park, Torontos half mile course, which opens its spring meeting tomorrow, is popular with local racing fans, chiefly because it is so easy of access. Hundreds may walk to the west end plant. The street cars run practically to the front door. As for the motor contingent, it takes them but a few minutes to run from downtown to the scene of activity. Those are the answers from the standpoint of accessibility. But another reason, and an important one at that, is because no matter what may be be said in favor of mile racing, the half mile kind has a strong appeal for many, who like to see the entire action of the race directly in front of them. The racing fan delights in following the progress of his or her horse. One mile tracks that is difficult without glasses, often difficult even with glasses, but always easy on a half mile track even without glasses. The entire scene is enacted in a small space in which every move can be noted carefully. And what is more, as a general rule, more favorites win at Dufferin than any other local track. Dufferin Park opens tomorrow.. Racing secretary W. R. Norvell has his card all arranged. There are many horses available and the only thing needed now is good weather, and that seems likely. The great majority of horses that performed at Long Branch have remained over and will perform again on the half mile track. A
