BIG CROWD AT WINNIPEG WINNIPEG, Man., June 18.— Before a crowd of about 10,000 people *he Polo Park race meeting was opened Saturday. The track was deep in mud as the result of recent rains. In a field of fifteen starters Duchess of York, under colors of C. Yeandle and carrying 111 pounds, was ridden to victory in the Western Canadian Handicap by jockey S. Holecko. The race, at one mile, was worth ,110 net to the winner. Yorkhome, with the top weight of 135 pounds, was second, and Yorkie Prince, with 114 pounds up, was third. The winner, second and third horses were sired by Yorkshire Lad, a Wrestern Canadian sire.
