c I : $ American Derby — Timely Notes and Gossip of Big Race 4 i W. J. Salmons Dr. Freeland, winner of this years Preakness Stakes, in company with seven others, which included R. T. Wilson, Jr.s, African, which raced to second place in the Belmont Stakes, left New York this morning and are due to arrive at Washington Park some time before noon Thursday. Dr. Freeland and African are both certain starters in the American Derby. There is also possibility that Black Diamond, which has performed in fine style on Canadian tracks this spring, will be a starter in the American Derby. His owner, W. J. Salmon, has ordered his shipment here to join the others in the Salmon string. He is accompanied by Snowy, a youngster which has also already scored successes in racing. W. R. Coes pair of Derby representatives, Igloo and Dail, left Belmont Park Wednesday afternoon for their trip here to compete for the rich prize next Saturday at Washington Park. The Coe representatives are in charge of B. Creech, who will saddle them for their American Derby engagement. With the W. R. Coe shipment will come a big consignment of W. S. Kilmer owned stars that will race at Washington Park under the supervision of trainer A. J. Blakely. Trainer John F. Schorr of the E. B. McLean stable advised secretary Joe McLennan on the phone from Latonia that he was preparing Silverdale for shipment to be a starter in the American Derby. »
