DUPLICATES 1928 VICTORY ♦ 1 Benjamin Blocks Mordine Winner of Rockaway Claiming Stakes. ♦ Baa Bean Makes Debut for Year and Fin- ishes Third to Light Carbine and Sepoy — Whitney Triumph. ■ NEW YORK. N. Y., June 12— Benjamin Block, whose colors were carried triumphantly in the Rockaway Claiming Stakes by Mordine last year, were again successful in the same race at Aqueduct today when Morsun, another son of Morvich. led his opponents home. The race was worth ,825 to the winner and it was Mrs. B. C. Harts Coots that raced to second place, with William M. Moores Stretcher taking third from Samuel Ross Verdi. In this race Extreme, after acting badly at the post, came out of the race lame. As the field left from the stalls, Extreme ■werved and interferred with Othello and Stretcher. McAtee had Morsun away fast from the inside position and he was good enough to make every post a winning one to be home winner by three-quarters of a length. Coots had raced close up from the start and hung on well at the end to beat Stretcher by a length and a half for second place, and Verdi was a distant fourth. Extreme was utterly devoid of speed and there was reason enough when he came back to the scales so badly lame that it is doubtful if he will be seen under silk again for a considerable time. The Catalan Handicap, over one mile and a sixte- nth. was of more interest than the Rockaway Claiming Stakes, for the reason that it marked the first appearance of the 100 pounds each, while the son of Sun Bria He was beaten by both Light Carbine and Sepoy, a pair that got in the handicap with 100 pounds each, while the son of Sun Briar carried 126 pounds, but this race was one to ■uggest that he will come back a good horse this year. LEADS ALL TnE WAY. Light Carbine took the lead at the rise of the barrier and Sepoy raced along closely after him for the entire distance. In the early stages Legere was content to rate Sun Beau along back of them, and he made no serious move on the son of Sun Briar until the long stretch was reached. There he roused him with his whip, but the light weights had plenty left and, at the end, Light Carbine was past the finish winner by a length and a half, while Sepoy had beaten him for second place by three lengths. Four lengths back of the Kilmer colt. Upset Lad beat Cherry Pie and Sankari, the only other starters. There was a H. P. Whitney victory in the race for juveniles, that was fifth, when Prometheus led home Grattan, from the Ran-cocas Stable, with Mrs. Graham Fair Van-derbilts Sarazen II. the one to save third. It was virtually a three-horse race all the way and in the final drive the son of Broomstick proved best and was going away at the end. Grattan raced along next to the Inner rail all the way and hung on gamely, while Sarazen II. had no excuses and tired hadly und r pressure. The opening dash was at five-eighths, for maiden juveniles of the plater variety, and It brought the graduation of Samuel Ross* Norma Jean, when she led home Bud Fishers Bob Shannon, with May Agnes K., the one to be third. May Agnes K. showed the way In the early racing, but Norma Jean was never far away, and at the end she drew out to win with something to spare. Bob Shannon also outfinished the daughter of Star Master, and was going well at the end. T. W. OBRIENS COLOKS. T. W. OBriens Virmar was the second winner of the day when he ran down Mrs. George Carrolls Okaybee in the long stretch to beat her home. Third went to John Mad-dens Tinder and she beat T. M. Cassidys Indian Scout for that part of the purse. Indian Scout caused a deal of trouble when he would not stand quietly in his stall, at the post, and he was finally moved to the outside stall. He left with the others, but did not show his usual alertness and Brice whipped him for almost the entire journey. He made up considerable ground to reach fourth place, but the performance was not up to his best effort. Okaybee was the one to show the way, but Virmar raced closely after the filly and it waa in the last furlong that the Carroll filly weakened and Virmar came on to be winner by a length and a half. Tinder had raced forwardly all the way. but at the end she waa doing her best to beat Indian Scout haif a length for third. J. G. Dcmarest claimed Extreme for ,000. Jockey Willie Garner left for Chicago today to ride Clyde Van Dusen in the Derby.
