I TRIPLE FOR LLOYD GENTRY -♦ Saddles Three Straight Winners at Fairmount Park. Wins Second with Gaineswood, Third with Thistle Beauty and Fourth with Katrina L. — Meyer Shares Glory. • COLLINSVILLE, 111., June 12.— There was a field day at Fairmount Park this afternoon, j for the popular owner and trainer Lloyd i J entry and for the latters present first string jockey, M. Meyer. Beginning with the second race, Gentry saddled and sent to the post | three straight winners, each of them ridden ; to their respective victories by jockey M. j Meyer, who gave an excellent exhibition oi horsemanship throughout the afternoons sport. Gentry saddled the first winner in the second race when he won the purse with Brown and Combs good four-year-old plater Gaineswood, which was the easiest winner of the trio which Gentry saddled. Coming back in the third race, Meyer landed in advance with Lloyd Gentrys own racer, the four-year-old filly Thistle Beauty. The first two of Meyers mounts were each much the best in their respective races and, incidentally, were backed into favoritism and Meyer was not called upon to display his best ability until the fourth race, in which he again scored with the three-year-old Katrina L. This filly won in an exceedingly hard fought and exciting finish from Elizabeth Bolla, and at the end Meyers hustling tactics and alert riding played a big part in the victory. Katrina L. raced in Gentrys own colors. There were only six starters for the fourth race, for three-year-olds. Katrina L., well ridden by M. Meyer, took a long lead on the first half mile, closely followed by Elizabeth Bolla. It was a two-horse race. Katrina L continued to set her own pace, but when entering the stretch began t;ring rapidly, and it was then Elizabeth Bolla moved up with a strong challenge, getting almost on even terms with the leader. However, Meyer rode hard and, in a long final drive, which ended in a close and thrilling finish, Katrina L managed to keep in the leid by a small margin to out finish Elizabeth Bolla. SEVERE HAILSTORM. While the horses were at the post for the first race the rain came down in torrents, continuing through the running of the race and following steadily after the finish. It was a five-eighths race fen* maiden fillies of the juvenile class and gave A. L. Smithas youngster, Cristar, an opportunity to graduate into the ranks of winners. Cristar, racing coupled with the Coldstream Farms My Glen, sprinted to the finish an easy winner over Princess Evol, Jane Williamson and six others. Jockey J. Berry was astride the winning filly and the Smith and Coldstream Farm entry were the favorites. Cristar raced into the lead at the start and set a good pace to the stretch turn. Princess Evol was in closest pursuit and gradually caught up to the leader, while Jane Williamson was going along well in third place, close to the inner rail. It was only these three of the starters which enjoyed prominent positions at any stage. On reaching the stretch. Princess Evol headed Cristar and went to the front, retained the lead to near the last sixteenth, where her stay in the lead was ended by the final challenge of Cristar, which came again to regain the lead and hold it to the end. Gaineswood, another capable performer in the muddy going, was an easy winner over the big band of starters in the second race, over three-quarters. Pacing in his best form and well-ridden by jockey M. Meyer, Gaineswood soon raced into the lead on the back stretch from a prominent beginning, and after taking command from Ha.«ty Girl, MUMly held the lead for the remainder of the distance, winning as the rider pleased. Jaines-wood was the favorite and hung up the second straight victory for the first choices. It was Doctor Glenn which triumphed over the remainder for second place and showed a good effort, gradually working his way up as the race progressed, after beginning slowly, and he held Dream Life safe in the late stages. Dream Life was away slowly, saved ground on the inside, but rdowly gained on the leaders, and after making up considerable ground in the final quarter, g t up at the end to down Hasty Girl for third place, Kitty Ball, Ida Loe. Mint W:iy and Fros-tilla Girl were the arrivals in the stable of Mrs. F. Sheldon, brought here by trainer F. Sheldon.
