CHURCHILL DOWNS MEETING i H. P. Gardner Leading Winner Through Successes of Clyde Van Dusen. ♦ Total Distribution of J2S4.215, Pally Average of Slt.JiS, Soring Nineteen Days Kac lap — Complete Statistics. Any meeting which provides one of the outstanding turf fixtures on the years calendar, such as the Kentucky Derby, lacks the tinge of excitement which usually marks the end of a meeting in which the stakes are more nearly equal in value, so far as the contest between winning owners is concerned. The owner of the winner of the Kentucky Derby, of course, takes away without dispute the money honors of the spring meeting at Churchill Downs. This spring II. 1*. Gaidner, owner of Clyde-Van Dus« n, winner of the Derby, reached a total of $.6,300 through Clyde Van Dusens two victories and one third. Of this 3,950 w;;s his share for winning the Derby. All of the other leaders in the financial column sent many more winners to the post. E. B. McLean, through his trainer, Johnny i Schoor, was represented by eight winners. two seconds and five thirds, and his total, J which gave him second rank to Gardner, was 8,850. The good colt Silverdale won more races for this establishment than any i other, but the victories of Toro and Jock were of more value. H. P. Hcadleys stable sent eleven winners : to the post during the Churchill Dowi.s meeting. His young racers were the largest con- I tributors toward his handsome total of S.- j 575. Alcibiades was the winning "ace." Not , "Very far behind in the list was D. E. Stew-art, whose Rose of Sharon, winner of the Kentucky Oaks, was his best winner. Two others, Stuyvesant Peabody, owner of Warty l-lynn, winner of the Clark Handicap aril the Southland Stable owner, owner of ! All Upset, winner of the Bashford Manor-Stakes, finished the meeting with totals exceeding 0,000. L. Jones, the good jockey riding for C. H. Knebelkamp, fought out a nip and tuck finish with K. Russell for riding honors. Ris-sell worr eleven races to Jones ten. but the latter led those that had more than fifty mounts. Willie Fronk rode nine winners. The Churchill Downs meeting was, as rs always the case in late years, a very fruit- ; ful one for owners which had horses of winning capacity. There was a total distribution of 84,215 for the nineteen days. This was a daily average of 4.j58.
