JOCK WHITNEYS PURCHASE Crack English Colt Royal Minstrel to Be Shipped to United States in Near Future. SPECIAL CABLEGRAM. LONDON, England, June 13.— Royal Minstrel, owned by John Hay "Jock" Whitney, ! has been withdrawn from the Royal Hunt : Cup, to be run next Wednesday at Ascot, acceptances for which were closed yesterday. The four-year-old son of Tetratema — Harpi-schord had been assigned top weight for this event, and his withdrawal caused no surprise. The American recently purchased Royal Minstrel from Capt. G. B. Gough, and it was understood at the time of the transaction that he would be reserved for competition in weight-for-age contests before being shipped to the United States. The thoroughbred is intended eventually for the stud, but it is expected that he will be seen in steeplechas-ing in the land of his new home before he is retired. Royal Minstrel compiled a good racing record after being idle in his juvenile year. He made his debut as a four-year-old this year in the Victoria Cup at the Athurst Park spring meeting, and won it under 120 pounds, defeating among others, Caballero, Knight of the Grail, Square Rock, winner of the Lingfield Handicap ; Orbindos, Yoho and Residue, to all of which he gave weight in the seven-eighths sprint. As a three-year-old, Royal Minstrel was twice winner, accounting for the Craven Stakes at Newmarket, and the St. James Palace Stakes at Ascot. He finished second to Flamingo in the Two Thousnad Guines, second to Fairway in the Eclipse, and second to Marconigram in the Sussex Stakes.
