LADIES DAY AT WHEELING San Carlos Accounts for Outstanding- Attraction on Program Track in Fast Condition. WHEELING, W. Va., April 14. Ladies Day accounted for a large attendance of the-fair sex at the fair grounds this afternoon. The conditions were favorable. A light rain last night served to lay the dust nicely. Dr. Hickman lowered the track record for five-eighths to 1 :01 in winning the initial race. Overhead the weather was all that could be desired. Repeating his sterling performance of Saturday here, A. G. Tarns San Carlos accounted for the Wheeling Intelligencer Purse, the sixth and feature attraction this afternoon. He raced within striking distance of the leaders for half the distance, overhauled StampdaJe approaching the stretch turn, took command and never left the result in serious doubt. Stampdale, the pacemaker, retained a length advantage over the others at the end. Taking command at once, Dr. Hickman showed the way by a comfortable margin at all Stages, with S.ureway always in closest attendance in the opener. Lady Le Band was tiring at the end and was hard pressed to save third by a narrow margin from the fast finishing Theo. Fay. An accident marred the running of the second race. As the big field was going to the first turn too closely bunched, Our Gains was caught in a jam, -stumbled and fell. Jockey F. Kiniry, who had the mount, was removed in an unconscious condition from the track. A hurried examination disclosed that he had evidently suffered no broken bones, but when he failed to regain consciousness, he was rushed to Ohio "Valley General Hospital. The horse suffered a broken back and was destroyed. The winner turned up in Vandion, which raced with the leaders in the stretch to eventually score handily. Royal Bells set much of the pace and was a good second. J. J. Bambrick outlasted the tiring Platoon for third after the latter had raced prominently in the early stages. Bill McKinneys recent purchase Paquette scored at the first asking when she wore down Vinlin in the stretch to eventually beat the latter handily in the third race. "Vladimir steadily improved his position on the outside and outlasted the tiring Milano for third.
