VICTORIAN OUT OF DIXIE . Owners Announce Crack Racer Will Not Be Starter. I Decide to Rest Son of "VVIiIsk Broom II. and Trepare Him for Grainger Memorial. LOUISVILLE, Ky., April 14. Victorian, winner of the Agua, Caliente Handicap, will not be a starter in the Dixie Handicap, opening feature of the Pimlico meeting, according to Arnold Hanger, who, in partnership with Silas Mason, owns this great colt and other members of the Warm Stable. Mr. Hanger was at Churchill Downs this morning and saw almost every member of his big string put through their paces by trainer Tommy Taylor, including Billy Champ, the Warm Stables Derby candidate, which, in company with Pretty Pose, went three-quarters in :25, :50. 1:03 and 1:16. Victorian is in excellent condition and was galloped this morning, but the owners of the Warm Stable do not want to rush him too much, as he has accomplished much by winning the Mexican feature. They will reserve him for the Grainger Memorial, a 0,000 added handicap to be run Saturday. May 24. Victorian will then be pointed for the International Handicap to be. run at Arlington Park. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bacharach of New Orleans returned from Lexington this morning in company with Howard Black of the Silver Springs Farm at the Blue Grass capital, where they were the guests of Mr. Black over Sunday. Trainer Frank P. Letellier worked the Derby candidates owned by Mr. Bacharach, who races under the nom de course of the Southland Stable. Playtime, the son of Sly Play Nell Wilder, made a favorable impression when he went one mile in company with Southland Boy in 1:43, tying the recent mark set by Gallant Knight for. that distance at the Downs, and then eased up a mile and a quarter in 2:17. Elizabeth Kennedy, the Kentucky Oaks candidate of Dan Lehan, showed a good six furlong gallop in 1 :20. Bryan Ott worked the French Dick Stables Derby candidate The Senator, six furlongs in 1:20, after going the first quarter in :24, three furlongs in :37, half in :51, and five furlongs in 1:05. Bellsmiih. the- Derby candidate of Jack Weaver, was fired for an osselet and knee troubles by Dr. N. E. Southard this morning. He will be thrown out of training for some months. H. T. Bachelor, who owned the sensational sprinter My Dandy, is representing the millionaire Texas turfmen, AV. T. Waggoner and Sons, as their agent, and he was at the Downs making arrangements for stalls for fourteen head of horses that trainer R. N. Greeley, who will make his riding engagements during that meeting. C. H. Trotter shipped by the Barry vans to Lexington four horses: Chancellor, Supreme Sweet, Spectacular and Rolling Sea. W. F. Poison will have four of his horses sent by the Barry vans to Lexington Tuesday from Douglas Park. Jockey Deperini will leave for Lexington to ride at the meeting. Playtime was caught by trainer Letellier in :12, :24, :36, :49, 1:03, 1:16, 1:29 for the first seven furlongs. All Upset was pulled up at the end of his mile in :24, :50, 1:17, 1:31, 1:4G. Mr. and Mrs. Bacharach will go to New York by way of Cincinnati this afternoon and return before the opening of the Downs meeting May 10. Trainer Mose Goldblatt worked the Ashland Oaks candidate Niato, which is also a Derby representative of Harry P. Whitney, with Grizel and Gotoit. at the Downs, The filly was timed in :50, 1:03, 1:1C, 1:30, 1 :45. Nine head of the Whitney horses will be vanned to Lexington on Wednesday to participate in the meeting which opens on Thursday. Play Ball turned in a slow six furlongs in 1:18-, going the quarter in :25, half in :51. This colt is training kindly for his Derby engagement and will be Mr. John Marschs most formidable representative if he continues to train on satisfactorily.
