NOTHING OUT OF ORDINARY Trainers at Downs. Refrain From Fast Work With Their Derby Candidates. ? LOUISVILLE, Ky., April 15. Trainers of Derby candidates at Churchill Downs did not indulge their charges in very fast moves, but in the main the works were -good, as the track, while fast, was still deep, although it was well watered Monday night. Trainer Mose Lowenstein sent the Le Mar Stock Farm Stables Maudlin, his representative in the "classic," in company with Canaan, for a mile in 1:48. The pair were timed in :26, :52, 1:20 for the first six furlongs. J. Flanagan was astride Maudlin and rated the colt well throughout. Roll Em Down, the Derby eligible of Mrs. Eva M. Delozier, was sent a mile by trainer James Everman in like time. The fractional were covered in a quarter in :25, half in :50, five furlongs 1:04, six furlongs 1:19, and first seven furlongs in 1 :34. This was a good move in the early stages for the son of Tea Caddy. Danny Stewart breezed J. N. Camdens Derby candidate Sidney, in company with Eloise, for half a mile in :50Mi. Sydney displayed a bit of his bad temper of last year before taking off, but finished out in good style and was much the best of the pair. These two, with Honey Locust, a candidate for the Ashland Oaks and Winslow, another Derby candidate, will be shipped by van to Lexington to race. Stock Market was galloped three furlongs by trainer Bill Crump in :36, after negotiating the first eight in :12 and the first quarter in :24. Gallant Knight, the Aud ley Farms Derby colt, was sent a three-eighths in :38 in preparation for a longer trial on Wednesday. He was paced by Easter Stockings. Tommy Oliphant. one of the best split second artists in the west, motored to Lexington today, to be on hand for the races, which start at the Kentucky Association track on Thursday. Trainer Tom Sanford shipped Pagan Laddie, Haramzada and the two-year-old Sonna to Lexington by freight. -These horses are the property of Mrs. H. B. Kessen of Covington.
