, WATCHES HORSES WORK OUT Mrs. Payne Whitney, Owner of Greentree Stable, Interested Spectator at Belmont. NEW YORK, N. Y April 15. Mrs. Payne Whitney, who races under the nom de course of the Greentree Stable, was an interested spectator at Belmont Park Monday. Accompanied by Major Louis Beard, she arrived at the track early and took keen interest in the limbering up gallops of the horses. Thirty-seven horses make up the stable, of which thirty-five were wintered at Macon, Ga. The stable houses twenty-seven two-year-olds, nine fillies and eighteen colts. The majority of the juveniles are home-breds. The horses shipped from the farm in splendid condition and, according to the stable attaches, the trip was an exceptionally good one. The run from Macon to the Pennsylvania station took twenty-six hours and long before 2 oclock the horses were bedded down in the stables at Belmont Park. Trainer Murphy appeared well pleased with the prospects of the stable for the year. The horses are well advanced in their training and were outdoors most of the winter. Willie Bren-nan, first assistant to Murphy, stated that Macon was an ideal place to winter thoroughbreds. The climate is just right, neither too warm nor too cold. In his opinion horses are bound to winter properly in such a climate. Of the older horses in the barn, Goose Egg heads the list. This filly headed the stable last year and is a likely prospect for this year. Comstockery is the main reliance in the handicap division. The other older horses in the string are Justinian, Capstone, Applecart, Shore Leave, Altar, Spell Bound, Romany Baw and Enduring. Jockeys Tom Malley and C. Watters are with the stable at present and will do the bulk of the riding.
