DR. HICKMAN SCORES AGAIN Aged Gelding Is One of Most Consistent Sprinters Now Racing at Wheeling. WHEELING, W. Va., April 25. Common Gold took down the Pennsylvania Purse, at a mile and a sixteenth, for A. G. Tarn, this afternoon, and it was his second victory since coming to this track. Whack, making his first start since leaving Havana, and Saucy Polly was again third, which seems to be her favorite landing place of late. Dr. Hickman scored again in the dash which preceded the running of the Pennsylvania. He led Toltec, Bright Flash and others over the five-eighths distance. This aged gelding, now thirteen years old, has won four of the six races he has run here. Taking command at the first turn, when Play Tag went a trifle wide. Regular Broom continued to show the way by a comfortable margin for the remainder of the trip in the opening dash. Amir was a keen factor all the way and held the place safe. Wee Gentleman came from behind to beat the others home after Play Tag tired. Sweet Tidings, well up from the start, took the lead while rounding the far turn and drew away decisively during the stretch run. Ferry of Fate came fast next the inner rail during the final eighth and eventually out-gamed the tiring Iristados for the second honors. The latter ruled favorite, but weakened after getting to the front midway of the back stretch. Dropping off a lot of weight enabled Jim Miller to hold his speed and stay in front of a good sized field in the third race, but he just did stick it out to beat the fast closing Royal Bells. The latter passed Sun-olin near the finish line. The fourth race was won by Platopn, a Westy Hogan colt, with A. B. Bensinger second and Dodie Leighton third.
