CHURCHILL DOWNS MEETING Only Two Weeks Remain Before Louisville Racing Is Under Way. Clark Handicap, Inaugural Feature, Promises to Attract Many of Outstanding Stars on Opening Day. LOUISVILLE, Ky., April 26. In a couple of weeks the bugle will call the horses to the post at Churchill Downs. And there will be ready for the colors about the best and most diversified band of thoroughbreds ever assembled at historic Churchill Downs. Horses of all classes, from stakes and handicap steeds to the veriest plater. The Clark Handicap will be the opening days feature. With its 0,000 added it will draw many of the best in racing. Last year this race was won by Stuyvesant Peabodys good four-year-old Martie Flynn, with the great mare, Easter Stocking, second. Both are being pointed again for the Clark. Among the eligibles for the Clark are Toro, Jock, Victorian, The Nut, Misstep, Martie Flynn, Clyde Van Dusen, Montanaro, Royal Julian! Martinique, Windy City, Buddy Basil and others, with the prospects of the majority of those named being among the starters. Kentucky Derby candidates eligible for the Clark Handicap include such prominent ones as Busy, Gold Step, Uncle Luther, Play Ball, Prince Atheling, Silver Cord, Uncle Matt, Niato, .Crossbones, Tonto Rock, Sydney Grant, Racketeer. Ell-Weir, Fiddler, Stock Market, Plucky Play, Sailor Boy and others. While it is seldom a well-meant Derby candidate goes in the Clark, it may be that several of them will start. All the three-year-olds will be in this rich fixture under light weight and it may be that a surprise is in store for the owners of the best of the handicap racers.
