HISTORICAL DIXIE HANDICAP MONDAY . Famous Old Race Features Opening of PimSico Spring Meeting 4 J Best 1 Handicap Field of Year to Date to Strive for 5,000 Prize Toro, Mike Hall, Donnay, Montanaro, Solace and Other Stars Named BALTIMORE, Md., April 2C. The climax of the Maryland spring racing season and what a wonderful climax will be provided by the Maryland Jockey Club, oldest and most progressive, as well as most prosperous of Maryland racing organizations in a meeting of twelve days beginning Monday. Schorr g, - : The Maryland Jockey Club offers its usual high class program of richly endowed stakes and generously provided overnight races and, as usual, many of the foremost horses are gathered here at the historical Pimlico course to strive for these rich prizes. Of course, the outstanding event of the meeting is the 0,000 Preakness Stakes down for decision on Friday, May 9. This stake ranks as one of the "classics" of the American turf, and each year is contested by the starts of the three-year-old division. Second in importance and monetary value is the Dixie Handicap, Mondays opening feature. Nineteen have been named to start in this coveted stake with such stars as Toro, Mike Hall, Donnay, Beacon Hill, Montanaro, Solace, Sortie and others among the prospective contestants. The prospects are excaedingly bright for a glorious race, and a great afternoon of high class sport for the capacity attendance -is expected at the old Hilltop course.
