SHOW SPEED IN WORKOUTS Maudlin and Gallant Knight in the Limelight at Lexington. Lc Mar Stock Farm Derby Eligible Goes One Mile in 1:11 Autlley Farm Colt Canters. 1 LOUISVILLE, Ky., April 26. Maudlin, the Derby eligible of the Le Mar Stock Farm Stable, from a time standpoint, galloped the fastest mile of any of the eligibles for the race that worked this morning. He was sent once around the track by trainer Lowen-stein in 1:44. going the first half in :50 and the first six furlongs in 1:16. Maudlin had no pacemaker, and this performance was the best, everything considered, that the son of Upset Brace Up has shown this season. High Foot, the Derby favorite, was sent the fastest five furlongs of the present training season when he. went the first quarter in :23 ; three-eighths in :35 ; half in :18 and the distance in 1:01. Jockey Carl Meyer was astride the colt and was urging " him at the end. The one mile work of Gallant Knight, the Derby candidate from the Audley Farm Stable, was accomplished in easy fashion, 1 :44 being the . time. He was paced by Easter Stockings for the first half, in :52, after which he left the filly behind and went to the six furlongs post in 1:18. Easter Stockings went the one mile in 1 :46. Gallant Knight was simply cantering and his work was highly praised by trainer Kay Spence, who complimented jockey II. Schutte for his excellent handling of the colt. Ladrone, one of the Derby candidates of J. N. Camden, and Martinique, an older horse, were sent one mile in the fractional time of :25 ; :50 ; 1:18; 1:47. Ladrone wore blinkers in his work this morning. Billy Champ, the Warm Stables candidate for the Derby, was worked with The Nut and Cady Hill. The latter was eased up after five furlongs in 1 :03, while Billy Champ and The Nut were timed in :24 ; :30 ; 1 :17, eased up one mile in 1:47. The track was fast but cuppy. Jack Spratt, the-Watson and McCaffrey Derby hope, was sent three furlongs in :21 ; :37 by trainer "Billy" Snearly. Cayuga was worked a half in :48 by trainer Jim Moody. Freddie Meyer, brother of Carl Meyer and M. E. Meyer escaped injury when he was unseated on Judge Sabbath at Churchill Downs this morning. He was returning to the stable after a gallop on the course with the Denemark horse when the animal suddenly cavorted and placed his head between his knees, Freddie being pitched over his head.- He slid down Judge Sabbaths neck however, and got an easy fall. The horse tore his bridle from the lads hands but. being near his stable, galloped into his shed.
