an eighth and worked in company with Wrattler The crack son of Sir Gallahad III which comes to Saturdays race unbeaten in competition as a threeyearold and winner of the Preakness Stakes and Wood Memorial covered the long route in 203 and eased up the full Derby course in 2 19 Sande snugged the sterling colt along all the way and was well pleased with the manner in which he accomplished his concluding assignment assignmentGallant Gallant Fox began with appreciable slug ¬ gishness and after running the first quarter in 27 negotiated the following one in 25 There followed a quarter in 31 pull under which he gal ¬ loped out the last eighth Wrattler which began some five lengths in advance of his illustrious stablemate also succeeded in traversing one mile and a quarter in 2 19 but put more effort in his work and was headed by Gallant Fox before completing a mile mileIt It will be remembered that the final work of William Woodwards Gallant Fox before his victory in the Preakness at Pimlico was generally reported as a sulky exhibition and a move that was anything but impressive When Sande galloped the son of Sir Gallahad III through the mud this morning there were watchers who had a like opinion of the work workThe The move lacked dash in the opinion of several good judges and it was freely ex ¬ pressed that the colt evidently was handi ¬ capped in the muddy footing It was 118There There was some criticism of High Foot after he negotiated one mile and an eighth in 159 many good judges contending that the son of Prince Pal was all out in adding a furlong in 14 after having run the mile in 145 The Valley Lake Stable colt came through with fine early speed for his concluding conditioner and ap ¬ peared to be well suited by the watery track He ran the opening
