END OF JAMAICA MEETING Final Days Program Decided Over Sloppy Track Sun Forward Defeats Zeal Aflcr Hard HardStretch Stretch Drive in Garden Cilv CilvClaiming Claiming Stakes 1 NEW YORK N Y May 11 The Gar ¬ den City Claiming Stakes which carried an added value of 2000 was the feature offer ¬ ing of the final days racing of the spring meeting of the Metropolitan Jockey Club at its Jamaica course The race was run in a driving rain and over a track that had turned from fast to sloppy due to the change in weather conditions Scratches reduced the Garden City Claiming Stakes to five starters of which Flag Day from the Wheat ley stable was installed the favorite favoriteThe The winner turned up in Mrs J P Smiths Sun Forward ridden by Harvey after a drive with Zeal from the Rancocas Stable while W R Coes Moine was third The field was well mannered at the post and left in good alignment Hendrick sent Zeal into command at once while Sun Forward and Moine raced along after him Flag Day and Wood God were in the rear There was no change in the running positions until the stretch was reached It was there that Sun Forward moved up on the outside Zeal was still showing the way and a furlong out appeared the winner Moine responded to urging and improved his position while Burke lost ground with Flag Day Wood God was sent through on the inside and for a moment gained some ground but tired badly and then dropped back In the final sixteenth Sun Forward steadily wore down Zeal and at the end had a head advan ¬ tage The race was worth 2725 to the winner winnerDOUBLE DOUBLE FOR BUTLER BUTLERJames James Butler master of Eastview Farm scored a double in the first two races when the full brothers Stormy Dawn and Awake were winners A Robertson had the mount on both starters The first race attracted a big field and Stormy Dawn after overcoming early Snterence came from behind to win by a length while in the second race Robertson had Awake close up throughout and shook off the leaders in the stretch and drew away in the final furlong furlongChatford Chatford which races for J L Johnston was the one to follow Stormy Dawn closest in the first race of the day while Shady Lady which performs for G D Widener was a driving third The start here was none too good Stormy Dawn met with early inter ¬ ference but recovered quickly and improved his position steadily on the outside Chat ford which was fractious at the post slipped through next to the inner rail Panguitch which was setting tlfe early pace quit badly and dropped back Stormy Dawn steadily wore down the leaders and at the end was an easy winner winnerThe The second race was for maiden threeyear olds and brought together a well matched band Awake the younger brother to Stormy Dawn was given some support by hunch players The start was a good1 one and Mem ¬ ories Dear Royal Light and Awake were the quickest in motion They drew away from the others and raced along smoothly with Royal Light next to the inner rail and Awake on the outside In the stretch Awake drew away while Memories Dear outlasted Royal Light in the final drive driveBUD BUD BROO3I 3CARROWLY 3CARROWLYThe The Willoughby Handicap a race of three quarters attracted a good field and resulted in a driving finish in which F E Browns Bud j3room wore down J L Hollands Ramoneur in the final strides while Rapid Transit was third The early pace was fast and it was Ramoneur that showed the way Justinian went along after him wliile Fator let Lahor drop back out of contention Turn ¬ ing for home Justinian was through while Rapid Transit made a wide turn and lost several lengths Lahor moved up under urging when called upon but Fator put forth a weak finish at the end Bud Broom which in the meantime had steadily improved his position came with a rush In the final eighth and Ramoneur put under pressure to stave him off tired at the end Rapid Transit came again and was a driving third before Lahor LahorGeorge George D Wideners Panetian was an easy winner of the fifth race which was for maiden twoyearolds At the finish he led home John Mill from the Greentree Stable while Chicleaf from the Sage Stable was third The winner was ridden by Eaby moved up fast on the outside and raced Chicleaf into defeat and then drew away John Mill finished fast in the stretch and was an easy second before the tired Chicleaf
