AURORA SCRATCHES Numerous Withdrawals Result of Sundays Heavy Rain Break of Dawn Is Easy Winner Winnerof of Principal Offering Ladies Day AURORA 111 May 19 The mud runners were in their glory at Exposition Park this afternoon The heavy rain of Sunday night had left the track deep in mud and resulted in many withdrawals The race that suf ¬ fered most was the Windemere Handicap the afternoons feature With Irish and Nora D out only four horses faced the barrier and Break of Dawn racing for B Creech was an easy winner He defeated Nostaw by five lengths with Sawdust third Charm was the last of the quartette to finish finishSawdust Sawdust making her first start of the meeting set the pace with Break of Dawn always within striking distance and after they had turned for home the latter took command Racing strongly through the go ¬ ing he soon assumed a handy advantage and although Nostaw which had raced in last place to the stretch was striving valiant ¬ ly to overtake him he was unequal to the task and had to be content with second place placeThis This was Ladies Day and the attendance was fairly large considering the inclement weather prevailing prevailingWatch Watch On was clearly the best horse in the opening race and had an easy time de ¬ feating the band of nine that went to the post The winner a quick beginner began fast and racing into a long lead jogged to the finish eight lengths in advance of the others Igor finished in second place and Fretwell was third Watch On which was ridden by jockey Keiser was the favorite favoriteAT AT HOME IX GOIXG GOIXGSeths Seths Companion was at home on the muddy track and scored by seven lengths in the second race Ridden with confidence by jockey Mulrooney the winner permitted Milano to set the pace and when ready took a good lead which she held Na Zdar finished well to outgame Milano for second place Pink Blossom was the favorite but floundered around in the mud and was far back all the way The race was over six furlongs furlongsAllegretto Allegretto after disappointing several times finally found footing to his liking this after ¬ noon and proceeded to win by twelve lengths from a large band of twoyearolds Several of the youngsters showed early speed only to tire in the stretch and Allegretto had no trouble passing them to win easily Red Tarn finishing gamely took second place and Dick Price the early pacemaker was third Allegretto despite his recent failures was well backed and paid 770 770Mary Mary McClain piloted in admirable fash ¬ ion by jockey Boucher won the fourth race Cottage Boy was a fastfinishing second and Master Samover took third place form the tiring Finnic The latter set the pace with Mary McClain at his flank and when the stretch was reached the filly took command Once clear Mary McClain opened up a long lead but had to be urged near the end to stall off the belated rusn of Cottage Boy The race was over one mile and seventy yards yardsMiss Miss Maryland ridden by jockey Ayraud was an easy winner in the sixth race The winner after being saved in the early stages came fast when ready to take an advan ¬ tageous lead and held it to the end High Player was good enough to be second and KnowMeGnome finished third Chester and Mekachee both prominent in the early stages quit badly
