JNCAMDEN TRIUMPH Honey Locust Scores in Feature at Churchill Downs Red Likker Is Lucky in Juvenile JuvenileContest Contest Percentage Earns EarnsPurse Purse in Opening Race LOUISVILLE Ky May 19 Aside from showers and a muddy track well remem ¬ bered parts of the Derby Day setting racing was resumed at Churchill Downs this after ¬ noon amid scenes far removed from the glamorous tumult and great throng of rac ¬ ings greatest occasion conducted at the his ¬ toric course only fortyeight hours before The copious rain which set in only a short time after the Derbys running proved the first of innumerable downpours during the succeeding fortyeight hourse and many of this afternoons large crowd ventured through a near cloudburst in making the trip to the watersoaked course courseLittle Little rain fell during racing hours but the skies remained heavily overcast and there was every prospect that additional rain would develop developFor For the Monday program the racing secre ¬ tary called upon three yearold fillies to fur ¬ nish the outstanding contest and of the seven under colors J N Camdens Honey Locust a potential candidate for the im ¬ pending renewal of the Kentucky Oaks proved best over the six and onehalf fur ¬ longs Miss Bess raced to second place while Fair Rosalind led the others which included the illdestined Patricia Ann fa ¬ vorite and Niato NiatoPATRICIA PATRICIA A3fX STUMBLES STUMBLESPatricia Patricia Ann when racing in second place on the stretch turn lost her chances when she stumbled and Niato just failed to get going in the muddy footing at any stage By the narrowest of margins Patricia Ann es ¬ caped a fall but the accident eliminated her herPaul Paul Neal who was riding his second win ¬ ner sent the Camden horse into the lead After drawing far away from her company approaching the stretch she took matters easily thereafter winning under reserve by one and onehalf lengths over Miss Bess a rank outsider The latter enjoyed a Jike final margin over Fair Rosalind which was aided in her creditable showing by a biff saving of ground groundPercentage Percentage well suited by the sloppy go ¬ ing came through with his first winning effort in almost two years when he defeated Maidens Choice and Broomshot by inches in the race which opened the program The fin ¬ ish rivalling any during the meeting saw the victor dropping his nose in front right at the end and after Maidens Choice had gained a short advantage over Broomshot The latter after setting almost all the pace held on stubbornly under a strong ride rideThe The ragged start of the eleven starters was costly to Zoom and Scotland and neither succeeded in reaching contention although they steadily improved their positions with the progress of the contest contest3IARTHA 3IARTHA JOXES THROUGHOUT THROUGHOUTMartha Martha Jones daughter of Wise Counsel loor and Luzahra carried the Looney Jones colors in front for the entire four and a half furlongs of the Barnesdale Purse or second race for maiden juvenile fillies and her victory under P Neal was decisive Drawing away into a long lead she won by six lengths from Transgression while Gay Kitty followed four lengths back Real Pardner the favorite although failing to seriously approach the leaders at any stage was fourth at the end of the short course where seven others followed followedThe The third race attracting eight of the poorer grade platers resulted in an easy victory for Royal Sport which took command approaching the stretch and holding sway thereafter won by slightly more than two lengths from My Hobby Lucky Nancy a rank outsider accounted for third with Gold Ridge which found most favor having little chance under a poor and timid ride by R Creese The winner passed My Hobby with a rush after the latter had shown the way to the final threeeighths and while My Hobby was having no trouble retaining second place went on to an easily gained triumph triumphOverconfident Overconfident riding by R Creese probably cost Brown Eyed Mary honors in the fourth race the second given over to juveniles At the end of the five furlongs Brown Eyed Mary lost by a nose to Red Likker grouped with five others in the mutual field largely because Creese after bringing the filly to the final eighth well in the van rode with too much confidence and failing to note Red Likker as he stole through along the rail lost at the end Just before Red Likker took the lead Creese went to work on the Moran filly but she did not have enough time to get going and the Knebelkamp gelding beat her home Six lengths back Sister Mary which raced close up throughout accounted for third over Nadia
