COHINSVILLE TRACK HEAVY St Glair Country Club Purse Heads Fairmount Program Tippy Toe Defeats Flying Ambassador and andElonardo Elonardo Parole II Wins WinsFourth Fourth Ilace COLLINSVILLE 111 May 19 Cloudy weather and a track heavy from the rain of Sunday night prevailed at Fairmount Park today Despite the condition of the track the sport was interesting and exciting and the threatening weather failed to cut the attendance as much as expected The pro ¬ gram was headed by the St Clair Country Club Purse in which Tippy Toe the daugh ¬ ter of Polymelian at home in the going took the measure of Flying Ambassador and Etonardo to account for first money moneyEmphatic Emphatic under the clever riding of B Hanford scored over a band of the lower grade platers in the first race Henry Som mers was second and Griff W third Em ¬ phatic was prominent from the start disposed of Imperator the early pacemaker but found strong opposition in the Murdock McQuit len representative and it was only after a strenuous duel in the final eighth that Henry Sommers gave way to the winner Griff W which attracted much support got up for third after a rather slow beginning John Speed was the choice but he was beaten decisively and at no time figured seriously seriouslyEASY EASY FOR NERVATOR NERVATORNervator Nervator racing in the colors of J Gates and under the guidance of apprentice T Swigert scored an easy victory in the second race when he led home F Serembas Atlas Thistle Dee and seven others of the juvenile class The winner raced in close pursuit of the pace from the start under slight re ¬ straint and when his rider put him under urging he raced into the lead and despite bearing out near the finish had a margin of a length and a half when the race ended Atlas failed to display his usual early speed but made up ground gradually and offered a game challenge but had to be content with second place Thistle Dee finished with a belated rush to gain third from the tiring Sethlette This race marked the first of its distance for juveniles at this meeting meetingBright Bright Outlook a representative of Mrs L M Holmes contributed greatly to the long delay at the post when he unseated jockey J Kellum and ran off among the stables When the start came he refused to leave with the others and was always outrun outrunThe The veteran C Ponce rode another winner when he piloted Miss E T Fullertons Water Lad to an impressive victory in the third race C Graffagninis Selection took second place with the consistent Arrogant third thirdSelection Selection and Water Lad had the most sup ¬ port but the former ruined his chances of winning by his tardy beginning and raced far out of it for the first quarter W Kern not discouraged kept after him and made up ground rapidly in the stretch and for a time it appeared as if he would overtake the leader but he was distressed from his early efforts and did well to take second place The winner showed a liking for the going and after disposing of Arrogant drew away to an easy victory The latter which has raced consistently since coming here made a futile effort to match strides with the son of Meridian and finally gave way to Selec ¬ tion but easily downed Surgeon for third place placeFAVORITE FAVORITE FAILURE FAILURENichelson Nichelson was the favored one but after showing good speed for a quarter gave way eventually finishing fifth fifthApprentice Apprentice B Hanford scored his second victory of the day when he rode E Perrys Parole II to an easy victory in the fourth race Millson easily withstood Patuxant and thereby took second place with the latter in the van of Bunthorne for third The winner backed to oddson by the public was con ¬ fidently ridden He followed the pace for threequarters and when Hanford called upon him for more speed the gallant son of Set Back began his charge on the leaders and they had only gone a sixteenth after entering the stretch when he wrested the lead from Millson and drawing away had four lengths advantage as they passed the judges stand Millson raced into command as they made the ficst turn and was going well until they entered the final quarter It was at this point that he showed signs of distress and readily gave way to the winner Patuxant although never a serious contender easily held Bunthorne safe for third money
