THREE FOR GAY PARISIAN Continues His Winning Streak by Taking St Charles Handicap Improved Weather Results In Increased Attendance at Thorncllffe Varsity Is Victor In Close Finish TORONTO Ont May 30 The fourth days racing at Thorncliffe Park was favored by good weather with the result that the atten ¬ dance was augmented considerably and the track was again fast The feature offering of the day was the St Charles Handicap a gallop of a mile and a sixteenth for three yearolds and up that were foaled in Can ¬ ada The purse attracted six of the best of the homebred division now racing racingGay Gay Parisian gave every evidence that on present condition he is best of the homebred division when he accounted for the feature by a margin of a length and a half from the Thorncliffe Stables Shorelint It was the third consecutive victory for the Small man racer whose string of conquests include the William Hendrie Memorial Handicap at the Woodbine The real race in the St Charles was for place and Shorelint had to give his best to get a nose verdict over R H News Troutlet which in turn led Perlapides by a five lengths margin Beau of the West and Kingsway completed the field fieldBlimp Blimp a threeyearold colt by Under Fire Corona made the first start of his racing career and gave every indication of being a colt of some merit when he led home the six other starters in the third race The Palm wood Stables colorbearer had a margin of two and a half lengths over his nearest rival J G Fletchers Moden which in turn had an advantage of a length and a half over Rentiva RentivaBlimp Blimp was away well and was soon in the leading position McGinnis had him clear but he was running under restraint in front of Rentiva and Perfect Play with Moden next in line In the stretch McGinnis drew away on the winner and was never in danger of being headed Moden moved up in the run down the stretch and succeeded in wresting second place from Rentiva The conditions of the race called for claiming allowances and because Perfect Play was not entered to be claimed he carried the penalty of an impost of 118 pounds poundsTHE THE DOCTOR HAXDILY HAXDILYThe The Doctor accounted for the second race when he led home Fair Anita in handy fashion by a margin of a length and a half with an extreme outsider Handiworker get ¬ ting third a half length farther back Aver ¬ sion went out to set the pace with Westys Tim close at hand and The Doctor recover ¬ ing from a rather slow start Aversion soon quit and Westys Tim went out into a com ¬ fortable lead The Doctor was improving his position in splendid fashion and was soon within striking distance of the leader In the run through the stretch The Doctor came on very fast took the lead and held Fair Anita safe when that mare challenged challengedJockey Jockey P McGinnis broke into the lime ¬ light when he scored his second consecutive win astride Mainsheet in the fourth race at a mile and a furlong he having piloted Blimp to victory in the third race Mainsheet had to be at her best to take the measure of Prairie Girl which closed very fast to get up from the last position in which she ran the greater part of the race The margin of vic ¬ tory at the finish was but a neck while Prairie Girl was but a half length in advance of Signola which in turn had but a head lead over Fair Gold GoldVarsity Varsity carried the colors of the Thorn ¬ cliffe Stable to a neck victory over the limit field of twelve Canadianbreds whicn elected to contest the opening contest a dash of seven furlongs Nearest behind the winner finished Bloom Tip which was a scant head in advance of Sea Kale Pandorus was fourth Varsity came around the outside in the stretch to wear down the leaders Pan ¬ dorus quit when challenged and dropped back and the Thorncliffe colorbearer sub ¬ dued Bloom Tip a few feet from the finish line lineAnother Another close finish came in the sixth race race when Ima Queen gained a neck decision over Wrackell at the end of the seven fur ¬ longs journey Third portion of the purse went to Dark Ayr AyrIma Ima Queen was away fast and took com ¬ mand closely attended by Talky The latter was sent into the lead in the run down the back stretch but Quillen on the ultimate winner was not to be drawn into a duel and allowed Dark Ayr to head her also It was not until the field straightened out in the stretch that Ima Queen was put to a drive and she took command Talky had tired and dropped back but Dark Ayr was still a serious contender Wrackell which had been far back most of the journey also came with a great rush in the stretch and was wearing the leader down when the fin ¬ ish line was crossed
