LARGE CROWD AT RIVERSIDE Record Attendance Present to toWitness Witness Holiday Program Splendid Weather Prevails KANSAS CITY Mo May 30 The largest crowd that ever attended a race meeting in Missouri turned out for the Memorial Day program at Riverside Park Perfect racing weather and a well balanced card of eight races made up the holiday offering Long before the first race the grand stand was filled and before the horses paraded to the post for the second race the overflow had reached to the vacant spots on the back stretch and the roads leading to the track were still packed The management esti ¬ mated that close to 12000 were on the grounds with several thousand occupying places of advantage on the hills surrounding the track trackWaikiki Waikiki under a good ride by the appren ¬ tice H R Riley scored a driving victory over the nine others in the second race over the futurity course with Lady Le Band outgam ing the pacemaker Al Latin for second place The winner followed the leaders closely to the turn for home where she was taken to the outside and after wearing the pace ¬ makers down drew away and at the end was a length in front of Lady Le Band Al Latin the early pacemaker was tiring badly at he end and was doing his best to stall off Talla dega for third thirdTen Ten of the poorer grade of platers went to the post for the first race which was over the Riverside course The winner turned up in the neglected San Antonio from the stable of B E Rumage with the early pace ¬ maker War Court second and The Engineer third San Antonio was fortunate in securing racing room on the inside on the lower turn and after wearing down the early leaders in the last eighth drew away and at the fin ¬ ish was four lengths in the van of War Court which set the early pace The Engi ¬ neer came from far back in the last quarter to take third from the tiring Barberry Black Boy which was backed into favortism quit badly after going threeeighths
